Bucolic restaurant on top of a hill (the paved street is 5minutes walk from parking but quite steep!). We ate outside in a warm night of may (we went there around 7pm): As you can see from pictures the area is immersed in the nature and nicely furnished (high chai for the baby was available)! The kid was free to wonder around while we were finishing our meal, being always on sight; and there were some rosters and goats to see. Personnel was kind and food was delicious!! We had a small salad and some corn bread as a starter; followed by a dish of mixed meats with fries and roasted vegetables (very big portions and delicious! The chicken and beef were extra tender!!) The Food is FANTASTIC! Homemade just like my grandmother's cooking. The portions are large, enough for two or take home for later. The scenery is fairytale-like.... We were lucky, we came without one and the staff kindly gave us a table that had just become available. To start, we ordered the “Hladni lušti za dvoje" (cold meat platter for two), which was more than generous, it came with several types of cheese, cold cuts, and three kinds of spreads. For the main course, I had the “Odrezak Vingrad”, turkey in mushroom sauce, served with homemade mlinci (traditional Croatian flatbread soaked in meat juices) with a cucumber and sour cream salad. The portion was huge, so I asked to have the rest packed to take home, which they did with no problem. The ambiance is lovely, with wooden tables and benches outside. There's also a playground if you're coming with kids. Oh, and the house dog is super friendly! 🐶 The Veliki Tabor Castle and the rural tourism of Grešne gorice are a perfect escape from the city. Veliki Tabor Castle has been located on the hills of Hrvatsko Zagorje since the 15th century and has an exceptionally interesting history and tradition. It is said that the screams of Veronika Desinićka, who was drowned in an icy well in the middle of the castle and bricked up in one of the walls, still echo in the castle. You have to admit, a very cruel death just because she dares to love. Not far from the castle lies a beautiful rural estate called Grešne gorice. The legend says that Veronika used to love with her darling in the groves surrounding the castle and the estate. Grešne gorice (Sinful hills) is definitely worth a visit for both the good food and the good wine. The food is diverse, which can be seen in the photographs. The portions are exceptionally large, so I suggest coming with an empty stomach. Here are a few useful tips. The estate has its own parking, which is almost mandatory if you don't want to wait, so call to reserve a table. Pets are more than welcome, especially if they know how to behave nicely, because the estate is full of free-range domestic animals that will let your mischievous little dog know whose yard you are in. And finally, I would like to commend our host Lorena, who throughout our stay quietly made sure that everything was alright and if we needed anything else. Living in the Netherlands, we reserved a table weeks before, and drove there on our way to the sea coast, making it our first stop in Croatia. For all the effort we invested to get there, and the excitment beforehand, the restauant felt flat. The main dishes, duck with mlinci and valjušci with beef were large portiones but the flavour was not as expected and felt overpriced for almost 25 euros per plate.
