Burnum is a former Roman military camp which later became an organised settlement. The main archeological findings are the partly reconstructed amphitheatre and the remains of "Campus", a training terrain. The info is available on-site. The amphitheatre is really astonishing and with perfect acoustics. Park your vehicle next to the wooden cabin and take a short walk around. It a amphiteatre from a Roman age. It veey nice but still it is too much reconstructed. And still working is in progress, so it will be better. It need improvement but it is still very historicaly relevant. It is made from original materials and with original techniques, but my feeling is that it takes time to feel original Nice acoustics in there, still I believe work in progress. Unlike the bigger amphitheatres, this one gives out a private vibe. A lot of grasshoppers there. From the ticket stand you have to walk 2 minutes to get there. We used the 40 kuna ticket for the upper Krka which includes the Manojlovac and Monastery inside. Although it's a relatively small and simple amphitheater, it's beautiful to see how extensive the Roman Empire was and its influence throughout. We stepped down from the tribuna imagining gladiators fighting each other and wild animals. Dogs are allowed on a leash, and there's free parking and restrooms at the entrance. The Krka National Park ticket grants access to this site, so plan your visit accordingly. Interesting place, like allready mentioned in other reviews, it's a smaller circus, yet there had to be a reasonable settelment to have one this size. You can almost imagine sitting there and seeing the games and spectacles take place. For macro photography lovers, this place is crawling with locust (grasshoppers) some are huge, take your gear with you ! Ancient Roman preserved military arena used nowadays also for venues, events and concerts. Great atmosphere! Burnum was built at the beginning of the 1st century in a strategic position from which the crossing over the Krka was monitored and from where campaigns against Delmata were organized, and Pliny the Elder mentions it as a "fortress famous for battles". It was the seat of numerous Roman legions, including XI. legions of Claudia pia fidelis and IV. legions of Flavia felix, after whose departure, or at the latest under Emperor Hadrian, it became a municipium that played an important role until late antiquity. Nice historical place, 40 km from Skradin and Skradinski buk, with annually held event of “The Burnum Ides” organized by Krka National Park.
