It is the first step to the top where you have the feeling that you achieved a little bit, because the next shorter helf is coming. On the halfway point you have a little bit overview but not very good. Despite that it is also very windy from the halfway point until the top. But you csnt change that. When you make it to the saddle, it’s a great spot to catch your breath for the big stair climb ahead. The across Mayo and Clew bay are spectacular. Nice and best place. But hard to trekking. Better to start early morning to reach top What a tough hike but boy is it worth it! The are absolutely phenomenal. Took us 2 hours to halfway and back to the carpark, with lots of stops on the way. Really recommend the half hike if you're pressed for time like we were. It's been 12 years since I climbed Croagh Patrick. Last time I did it barefoot but with kids I wasn't gonna chance it. We had a stunning day. We chose to go late to avoid the larger crowds. Still plenty of people but easier climb when it's not a queue. The are as spectacular as ever. The sheep are very friendly. I was really impressed with the amount of support for climbers with a helicopter doing sweeps to ensure everyone was safe. I think everyone should do the climb at least once. It's challenging but definitely manageable. We passed a man in his 70s doing it barefoot, cool as a cucumber. This is a hike on a steep mountain with rough underfoot conditions, need to be prepared and weather conditions favourable, it's a rewarding trip and the are spectacular 😀 enjoy 😉 It kind of levels off at this point and it has very basic and not very clean toilet facilities, but you wouldn't expect anything else halfway up a mountain. Very tough climb, rent a stick, wear proper hiking boots. Water essential. Probably need 4 hours to complete. Worth it though, on the way up and down spectacular. Have to go back as was cloudy at the summit. Magical & breath taking view from the top, if you get a clear day like we did. It's a tough climb, but boy, it is so worth it when you get to the top!
