It's quite a nice place with really nice walks to make around Named for the Irish landed gentry family who built the estate between 1792 and 1795, Moore Hall lies on Muckloon Hill overlooking Lough Carra. The was designed by the Irish architect John Roberts. George Moore was a wine and brandy trader were he made his fortune. Amazing place, it’s a shame you cant enter the but just walking through the grounds is totally worth it. We camped nearby and wanted a nice forest walk. Definitely worth it. Lovely woods for a walk. There is ample parking and toilets in the car park. The is on a good path, so would be wheelchair accessible. Moore Hall was interesting to see and the walled garden was full of wildflowers. If you are in the area, I would recommend this walk. It is free including parking. Fascinating and evocative ruins of a “Big House” burned by the IRA in 1923. It’s been in ruins for more than 100 years. Nice parking area (with toilets) and a short through the woods up to the house. Moore Hall is definitely a place worth visiting if you're in County Mayo. On the way there, you can stop by a beautiful lake (often visited by people with campervans) – it’s also a great spot for camping, just a 5-minute from Moore Hall. Once you arrive, there’s a free car park and a convenient water refill station for bottles. The area offers several walking trails surrounded by nature, perfect for a quiet stroll or a family outing. The highlight is the atmospheric ruins of the old Moore Hall house, which was destroyed in a fire – a fascinating and slightly mysterious sight. There are benches to sit and rest, a small playground for kids, and many lovely wooden animal sculptures along the way. You’ll also find a garden area, which is still in need of some care, but has a lot of potential and will surely look amazing once it’s fully restored. Entrance is completely free. A truly peaceful and enjoyable place to explore – highly recommended! Nice easy hikes/trails. Renovation works are being done to the washrooms and various areas around the grounds. The walks around Moore Hall are in quite dense forest, so no views of the lake. Best lake view at small parking stop about 150 metres on road before entrance to Moore Hall carpark. Lovely grounds with a playground and different play stations along the to the house. There is a bathroom and water station available as well. Very well maintained and beautiful. The is still very striking and the story is available to read on plaques around the and walled garden. I did the looped with a buggy and had no issues. We've also been on really sunny days and people were swimming in the lake so will definitely pack out swim stuff for the next visit.
