Surrounded by towering Albanian mountains, it stands peacefully with its simple yet elegant architecture, distinct from the grand churches we’re used to in Central Europe. Its wooden roof and stone structure blend perfectly with the natural surroundings. When you're there, it feels like time has stopped. Whether you're religious or not, the calm energy of the place is undeniable. It’s no surprise that it has become one of the most photographed landmarks in Albania — it’s almost impossible not to stop and admire it. Interesting fact: Kisha e Thethit was built in 1892 and served not only as a place of worship but also as a school during Albania’s communist period when religious practice was forbidden. After years of neglect, it was restored in the 2000s and has since become a symbol of Theth's cultural and spiritual resilience. On a sunny day the churchyard is a perfect place to lie down on the grass and look at the mountains on both sides of the valley and just day dream... If you look carefully next to the wooden gates surrounding the church, next to them there is always a step ladder on both sides of the fences. It was puzzling to me at first until my guide told me that this is for people to go in and out of the yard without opening the gates and letting animals doing the same. How interesting! Beautiful little located in one of the calmest valley villages in Albania. If you’re lucky, the doors will be open and you can go inside to see what it’s like. I think one of the best aspects of it is just the sheer photographic appeal. Old and well preserved in Theth valley that’s surrounded by tall mountains all around as well as a blue river to the right. There are never too many visitors in the area and you can explore the grounds at any time. It’s a major attraction at Theth and is worth the visit when in the area. The itself was closed when I visited it, but you could still enjoy the envolving area with lush green grass. There was even an old local man playing the çifteli ( i think) Very nice indeed, if you have the time check this one out.
