Tranquil from the Friary around the headland onto Lady Isobellas beach. This continues into the forest if you want to do a loop walk. Cafe does home baked sweet treats and soup and sandwiches. Gorgeous coffee. Ards Friary is set in a beautiful and peaceful location, perfect for a quiet and to enjoy the natural surroundings. The views of the sea and forest paths are really lovely. Worth a visit if you’re nearby and enjoy tranquil settings, but overall an average experience. Very tranquil and peaceful place as you would imagine a friary to be. What you don't expect is the stunning view and beach just metres from the main building. It was a cracking wee place to stop off on the way to Dunfanaghy. Lots of history and information on display. There's a great wee cafe on site and ample parking though it is a one way system. The front is manned by the brothers and there is a wee holy shop for souvenirs. Very relaxed and meditative, every one that we spoke with were very friendly and almost spiritual. place at the brotherhood of peace. 🙏 Absolutely stunning place. There is a tea room in the Friary with treats. You can along the shore and enjoy beautiful views. Be aware of ticks. They are plenty in the grass in the whole Ards forest park. Just stay on the paths and check your legs regularly. Beautiful Friary with a coffee shop and religious book shop if you're into that. Inside the chapel was busy but not bunged. Just pleasantly busy. (Saturday) A very calm and quiet place to stay, pray and spend. It's a beautiful location near seaside and other side of it is a forest. There are ways to through the sea shores and forest. The food provided here is also great 👍 Should you want a place where you can sit or without a care, then Ards Friary is the place. Easy walks can be short or long should you want to to the beaches. Very kid friendly as the paths are very easy to navigate. When the tide is out, it's a great place for the kids to check out the rock pools for sealife. The cafe has all that you need, should you require a refreshment and has seating inside and out. A shout out to our new favourite coffee stop in Donegal. The cafe at Ards Friary Coffee Dock have just reopened after a refurb to their little cafe. For those passing through NW Donegal do stop and enjoy the beautiful walks around the forests and beaches of Ards Friary Retreat Centre. The landscape is stunning and the people so friendly. To cap it off, wonderful scones and fresh sandwiches all home made…. The coffee itself?, a Cappuccino served to you by a Capuchin Brother…. Not more authentic than that! And a great coffee too. The day out around the grounds is free, but I did find a little auto till where you can make voluntary donations…. Money well spent for such a morning. We’ll be back again soon.
