Port “Vidin”

This was a sleepy town in Bulgaria that boasts a fascinating history. The fortress was beautifully preserved. This beautiful port was just outside where our river cruise ship had docked. There was a nice long promenade alongside a beautiful park. The centre of Vidin town was just 2 minutes walk away. The freedom monument and famous Bdintsi Square were very close by. It is one of the places with the nicest view of the Danube river and Romanian cost. Plenty of parking spots on site. A quiet place but nice to walk around to see this small town Good place for our cruise boat to moor. Walking distance to all the main sights in Vidin. Quite a run down place unfortunately. The fort is worth a visit and a few shops / bars. As part of a river cruise worth a walk around but I wouldn’t visit otherwise. The port and river bank are both good placd to hang around. The one can have good view of the Danube, nearby mountains and two other countries. If the one may need to have a rest, to refresh oneself, then all sorts of facilities are nearby for salvation. Plenty of shade can also be useful in the summer. A step back in time. You can find some renovated buildings, but also some "ruins". The port itself is very dissapointing, they should spend some money on it for refurbishment. Vidin itself is nice, nice to walk around, or to bike, I didn't see too many tourists and the locals might not speak English. We were there for one day on a river cruise and found nice souvenir shops and a friendly restaurant/cafe for and afternoon drink. However, the snow was not cleaned, so having to be so careful when walking killed part of the fun.
