This is a really great place just one block up from the main street and well worth a visit. It really lives up to its reputation as being a modern architectural gem designed by Norwegian architect Kjell Beite. it was completed in 2005 and features a unique roof structure inspired by the Mexican architect Candela's designs. The is part of a complex that includes the Town Hall and a cinema, offering a vast collection of across four floors and a top gallery. This is seemingly the hot spot in town for families on weekends. The place was packed on Saturday - primarily with young families who were doing all kinds of kid activities in the downstairs area of the library. The first and second floors had lots of young people on their computers and the 3rd floor which is a "quiet zone" is worth visiting for the views of the town. I wouldn't say this is a must-visit but if you have time, it is worthwhile - and a good place to rest and get out of the weather if it is inclement. Impressive architecture for a public library. It is open long hours and provides a nice place to sit and read. There are impressive views of the harbor and sea from the top floor. It is just worth it to go inside for the views. It is a 5 storey building with a lot of and spaces were you can hangout whether to read a book, do some work or even just have conversations. Theres a lot of to choose from and the glass walls make the place welcoming with a lot of natural light. Spent a rainy afternoon in Tromso reading in a cozy nook. The is massive and so well lit. The views on one side are lovely and the whole place has a warm, welcoming ambience. Saw several folks sitting and working away on their laptop and there was also a kids section downstairs to keep the little ones entertained. There’s also a cafe though we didn’t try it out. Perfect if you’re a book lover and have a few hours to spare in Tromso and looking for something chill and relaxing to do. Lovely place to sit and read a book and relax! There’s a collection (although small) of English on the second floor. There are charging points on all tables, and also a facility to get free drinking water and paid coffee on the ground floor, which is really great! Very beautiful suitable for all ages.
