Absolutely must visit because of the fantastic all over the surrounding areas. Great fun in the deep snow while enjoying the surrounding mountains. There is a good coffee shop as well. The car is also fun in itself. I was initially skeptical about going up here but then we got the pass and I’m happy we went. Since it seemed like a clear day, we decided to head over there. Several buses from the center go here. The car is smooth but a bit packed. The were great and there were several vantage points. I really liked that we came around the golden hour. This is a MUST when visiting Tromso but it is very weather dependent and the weather in Tromso changes radically from minute to minute so just keep that in mind. On the day I visited, it was sunny and clear when I took the car up but within an hour, the was totally shrouded in clouds and it was snowing heavily. However, the skies would clear up every 15 minutes or so. I got a seat by the window and stayed for a few hours. The cafe is fine - I got a sandwich and a coffee but I wouldn't plan on having a real dinner up there. THE BIGGEST TIP: Make sure you book a roundtrip on the Shuttle Bus which takes you right to the car from the Tourist Office in the Harbor area. I had taken one of the regular buses but they leave you off close to the Arctic Cathedral and then you have a fairly strenuous hike (in the snow and ice) up the mountain. I did book the shuttle bus for my return to the city. The weather the last few days I will be here does not look promising but if it clears up, I plan to make one last trip up the mountain. It is also an excellent spot to see the Northern Lights if the weather is clear. The same night (March 13) that I was on a tour an hour out of Tromso, many people posted their aurora sightings on top of Stortsteinen mountain. NOTE: I did make a second trip up the and this time booked online for both the car and return trip on the bus and it made everything 100% better. Very beautiful! I highly recommend taking the staircase up or down and doing the for the other direction. If you are looking for a challenge, you can take the Sherpa staircase up and then the cart down or vice verse. Very beautiful scenic view. I highly recommend. There’s a very cute cafe located at the top as well and a variety of points. We've been advised to get there & the feeling was really impressive!! Tickets are quite expensive either way, so we got the round trip one, which enables you to stay at the top as long as you wish. The price per adult was about 47€ (March 2025). You will have a panoramic of the Tromsø in the Arctic circle. Stunning at night but really windy and cold. There is a coffee/restaurant and a point at the top of the mountain. We saw the Northern lights just when we got off the car though!!!! Took the car up to Storsteinen (~421 m above sea level) and the experience was simply magical! The four-minute offers a smooth ascent with panoramic of Tromsø, fjords, mountains, and islands below but the only downside is the fare for the car is really expensive for such a short ride. The at the is really breathtaking. The car is not available. They're doing repairs or something. So, we climbed a bit by foot, on the trial followed by the sherpa steps. Not all the way to the top, because it is quite difficult... Also, there are too many mosquitos all around, the size of overweight trolls, and they are insatiable. We took some good pictures though... It's a fantastic destination! Four days after New Year's Eve, I was greeted by a beautiful snowy landscape. Even with the winter chill, the bright sun created a stunning contrast, and the moon added a magical touch. The from the top is absolutely outstanding and a must-see. The car, I booked online on the same day without any issues. Highly recommended for an unforgettable visit! On 26th March 2025 I visited Fjellheisen and it was an amazing experience! The car is incredibly well-maintained, which made me feel safe and comfortable during the ride. The charges are fair, considering the breathtaking you get at the top, especially at night. Speaking of views, they are absolutely stunning! The viewing point is perfectly situated at the vantage point, allowing for some truly unforgettable scenery. It’s a great spot not only for enjoying the but also for skiing adventures. Plus, I appreciated that the washrooms were clean and well-kept. Overall, I highly recommend Fjellheisen for anyone looking to enjoy the natural beauty of Tromsø while having a fun and adventurous day! Waste of time. Disappointing for me. We waited in line for more than 90 minutes. At the entrance from below there is a human seller and a one-way , We were informed that at the top there is an trail from the down back to the street we came from. When we got to the top there was NO sign or employee of the place to ask where the this trail. After searching for about 20 minutes for the trail from the , we gave up and decided to take the again back down were we came from . BUYING A BACK At the top there is no human seller and we tried to order online :/ Unfortunately, the website is very unfriendly / inaccurate - we purchased a that appeared on the website as a return ticket. Then we received the in an email, but unfortunately it was a round instead of a one-way for getting back .+ In addition, ONLY one appeared in the email, not two, which forced us to enter together when the gate opened after scanning the barcode. When we got down we asked the line worker where the trail on top was supposed to be apparently as they told us if you go out at the top of the ON the LEFT there should be the trail. Even though when we were up we looked on the left side for sometime but there was no one to ask, all tourists like us, there was no sign nothing that give a clue about it. It is very disappointing . ++there is no way to get a refund for the unnecessary that the website system decided to sell us.. +++the holds about 20+ people, meaning that if you get in first you will be lucky and able to see something from the if you are the last person as well, but everyone in the middle has no chance of seeing anything. I tried to stand on tiptoe and I barely saw anything . At the top there is a viewing point with a spectacular view. This is to the ONLY credit i can give the place. Beautiful of the below. Large area to roam around. The staff is…not super friendly but they have a monotonous job with a bunch of tourist!! We didn’t try the cafe. We went in March, so not a lot to do other than and take picture, no trails are visible. Kind of expensive but what isn’t in Norway!! Wanted to go up to see the northern lights but unfortunately it was pretty cloudy. We remained hopeful and waited with many others but to no avail. Nonetheless, we were able to see the beautiful skyline of Tromsø. The queue to enter was extremely long and I noticed that there were some who bought the tickets IN ADVANCE but still had to wait in the long queue. Tickets were pricey too.. For the car, it was indicated online that 28 people could fit in it, and my gosh…. it felt like they tried to squeeze as many people in… could not enjoy the going up as everyone were packed like sardines. Understandably though, as there is only one car and the wait for each can be quite long depending on your luck (although the duration of the is very fast less than 5 mins). Hence, I didn’t mind squeezing so that I don’t have to wait so long at the bottom. Now, at the top, there is only one cafe — Fjellstua cafe. It was once again extremely crowded, and many people were standing around to find seats to shield away from the cold, including my family and I. Very limited seating areas and was told that the seats cannot be reserved in advance, so for those going do take note! Thankfully, we managed to get some seats. We ordered barley mushroom risotto, chocolate crunch cake and bacalao; they were good!! Nearly no wait very friendly staff. Car park is about a five minute walk from the actual car and the point is amazing after the 2 minuite scenic joirney to the top.
