Very good with old shops, exhibits and guided tours. Plenty of information given by ex miners. Stumbled upon this attraction whilst in Wales . The was unfortunately fully booked so we were unable to the mine. The and the above ground area was extremely interesting - looked busy - we didn’t use it but it was obviously popular. I checking opening and times so as you don’t miss out! Excellent we got there 10 minutes early so we looked at the free upstairs lots of information and a dress up place then we went on the with our Welsh minor our Graham very pleasant and informative the last around a couple of hours it may look small but there are lots to see brilliant little gem we liked the dam ride at the end so cool keep up the good work toilet available downstairs stairs disabled needs a rador key a little shop and a at lower level all disabled accessible a car park small and expensive Really enjoyed the guided tour. Very interesting. The was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of facts about the history of the mine. It was very quiet when we visited. This place should not be missed if you are in the area. It was very good value for money. experience! The was an old worker that had worked in the mines for 30 years. It was really interesting knowing more about the mines. The coffee shop is also very beautiful. Don't forget to pre book. I really liked the and even though the was an actual miner from back in the day, I couldn't understand most of the things he said. But I still loved going underground, the route was worth it, seeing the massive engine run and it all ends in an AR train ride. You can't just visit the and don't go down. Recommended. 4* just because the was really really hard to understand. Sorry, but it really degraded my It was an amazing place. Our had previously worked in that particular mine so his knowledge brought the whole to life. There were many demonstrations and wax models giving a 3d effect. The too is well worth a visit. I honestly can say this truly was an amazing from the minute I walked in the doors. Never do I think I have been to a visitor attraction with such a warm friendly welcome by every single member of staff. Very interesting of top side and underground of a typical mine. Our John was very informative, and made the come alive with stories and a few jokes. The highlights of the for me when when John set off a mock explosion underground, as the miners would do whilst opening a new seam. The culminated in a simulated Dram Ride, which was fun. There is a very nice at the exhibition, serving really good food, and also selling their own brand of chocolate, which I believe is made on site. Geeat day out for the whole family. Plenty of interesting things to see and do plus a cafe, exhibition and gift shop. Nice to see the old valleys way of life being remembered! One of the best guided tours I've ever been on. Go down a mine shaft and what life for a miner was really like. Wheelchair friendly. Wow! Amazing to actually go down into the mines. Informative, spectacular, the history and had plenty to see and discover. Fantastic. Graham, our guide, was amazing! He really made the tour. Graham was friendly, witty and kept the group engaged. My husband and I found it particularly beneficial that he was able to talk from experience, having worked as a Miner himself. He answered all of our questions and provided a insight into mining. The itself didn't have too much to see. In comparison to another we experienced in North Wales (slate mining), we spent little time underground. It would have been to do further walks underground to get a stronger feel, but still only a glimpse (since we thankfully are not ourselves) of what the Miners had. Overall, I would the to learn about the history plays in South Wales! Fantastic with a brilliant of what it looked like down one of the many mines in south Wales, the was absolutely brilliant being a former miner his entire life he was very knowledgeable and really made the very fun and exciting. I highly this to anyone who wants to know more about that went on in south Wales. Great coffee / food available on site and all staff were very friendly and helpful Staff are very friendly n polite our guides name is Graham n he did a brilliant job n full of information also the cakes looked amazing but I have intolerance to dairy so didn't try any n the gift shop was small but had some lovely things their also try the quiz that's in 1 of the rooms I hope you get more than I did enjoy a piece of our welsh heritage . Booked the black gold a few days in advance, no queue whatsoever on entry and we were taken around by Tony who was an excellent guide, he got the children involved and catered to a guest who had some assistance needs. The exhibitions in the visitor centre were very informative and well put together, they didn't shy away from the struggles the communities have faced in the past but also celebrated their resilience. The was a pleasant treat to finish off our visit with lots of homemade delights. Would definitely visiting for adults and children alike. A real gem in South Wales! Absolute gem of a place. The is fun. Led today by Martin... personable as the Welsh are and deeply knowledge and passionate. The real life anecdotes and facts intertwined with humour made for a thoroughly enjoyable of a historic site. Me (30s), my mum (retired), 10 and 7 year old had a time and found a fascination develop from our interactions today. Would highly recommend. Tony was a throughout the mines. Very enjoyable trip. The provided excellent breakfast at a very reasonable price. Would the this trip to anybody interested in Welsh history We visited the Mines on 03.06.2025 and it was an incredible experience. We were guided through the mine by the lovely Peter who was a miner of 35 years and had exceptional knowledge and was able to answer all questions throughly. Peter was also with our young children 9 and 5. We learnt so much as well as our children. Thank you for a memorable day, definitely a day out for all the family. Took my partner to go for the tour. Tony lead the group and was very engaging. Really informative and the real life experiences he has in made all the difference. Would to anyone! Diolch 🙂 Absolutely brilliant experience. We took the with a John, who was informative and funny. My Dad was a miner so I learned alot from him regarding the stories and disasters, but to see and it was just amazing. If you want to learn about the history of welsh coalmining in the welsh valleys and more, then I can’t this enough. for families..I will definitely come back with my family. Did the Santa Toy mine and the kids and grown ups absolutely loved it. Magical lights, lovely guides and the most wonderful Santa to meet after. The food in the was very good. We were lucky they got us in though so would pre booking a table Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
