Our was late afternoon when the light was going but it was very peaceful and we still saw ducks, geese, swans and a marsh harrier - albeit a way off. Other people were about too and everyone friendly and chatty :) The office wasn’t open at the time of our but there are toilets and a good size car park. This is all about the birds. The reception is always friendly, warm and helpful. Don't expect a cafe. The has well maintained with views. I went to see the Marsh Harriers and they did not disappoint. Although my pics were rubbish Was bought a years rspb subscription as a present. So took advantage of the sunny weather and took my camera to this place for the first time. Very pleased with the hides. Got some pics of the marsh harriers, snipe, whopper swan and mute swans. It was a very cold icy day. But met a couple of other lovely birders while I was there.. can't wait to again when the weather is warmer. Lovely to again after 30 years. Missed the major migrations but loads of other things to see and hear. Ceti's warbler singing away, loads of waterfowl, snipe, and the best was our first marsh harrier. The volunteers were super and regularly on hand to point out things and suggest places to and best times to see our bucket list birds. Good facilities, easy access paths, loos, hot drinks and a log burner in the main hide to warm up on a cold day. It's very relaxing but I was disappointed how many I saw. There is binoculars to hire £4 and £5 for adults. Nice relaxing place to visit. not far apart This was our second to this as we are new members to RSPB. It's a place to with lots of hides. The staff are friendly and very informative. It was a very windy day today, but we still saw a marsh harrier as well as lots of other birds, dragon flies and butterflies. We enjoyed it and will be back. A to Blacktoft Sands is well worth it for people who love watching & photographing birds. Watching Marsh Harriers hunting was a highlight for me. The are fantastic and very well built. It's just how nature reserves should be, all about the birds. A super wetlands with hides, mostly accessible. Very knowledgeable staff and we’ve always had discussions with other birdwatchers.
