This is a fantastic example of a gable but because its in the middle of a busy town you will never find a time when cars or vans are not parked in of it, so that ruins it regarding photography, but its well kept and in excellent condition, its such a pity it is not more isolated and the roads around it clear of traffic, especially as it such a major tourist attraction, cheers For those who want to get closer to ancient castles, the wall and towers that remain are a nice sight to see. Birds have nested all over the wall itself and a nice garden surrounds the viewpoint for the interior. It will be a quick visit bet the history is there. Friendly barman, smashing pint of Guinness, one of the best. Inf don't do food but the atmosphere is good Its a small but beautiful. Couldn't really walk around it properly as a lot of fencing off. Also Just the one wall remains, so not much to see. You'd be much better off going to somewhere like Kilkenny A good attractive location. Nothing huge, but i would call it a quick stop by location if you are on a trip. We came in motorbike and there were plenty of places for parking in front. Also there are shops nearby for food. Such a great spot! I’m sure many people pass by without realizing it, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. The OPW did a fantastic job with the landscaping using trees to outline the walls that are no longer there, really brings the history to life. Parking was not great, you can't park in of the castle. It took literally 15 mins to look around & read . But interesting. Great relic of history! Well maintained, with informative visuals for visitors like us. A must go place in Carlow with Friends. Quick Tip: There’s a parking area in of the castle. If in any case it’s full, there’s another parking just a few block from here. Enjoy! Impressive ruins of the ancient worth to visit, good walking path around it, several information boards telling about its history and drawings, parking spaces in of the castle. Free access, no tickets. Beautiful place Just a wall remaining and was mostly locked up. Wouldn't recommend if you don't have a lot of time but not a bad place to visit.
