We came here to kill time on a super windy day and were happy we did! Anla at the desk was so helpful in informing us on things to do in the area and up north as well. She also was super friendly with our active toddler and made her laugh which made our day! They have some older videos playing on the top floor and a small coloring area on the second area for kids. Wouldn’t need longer than 30 minutes here and it’s free. If you like to hike, there are many maps available ! Great adviser behind the desk, you can also buy postcards and souvenirs. They are exhibits on the 2nd floor. If you have any questions, they have an answer ! A nice tourist centre with an informative little (free) museum too. One of the few places that seemed to be open in Hofn on Easter Sunday! Some useful maps, brochures and the staff seemed friendly. Free lockers available. Clean public washrooms. Has a small museum. Maps available. Postcards, photo books, etc for sale. We visited on 26th June and spent time watching the movies and viewing the exhibits - don't miss the movie of the glacial flood. We met a friendly, humurous and informative young man who gave us great tips for visits and camping - the Puffin tip was the best. I unfortunately did not get his name. Very nice staff, but they sent us to a place (Lonsoraefi) not suited for regular cars, even 4x4. We tried the roads on each side of the river, and both were really dangerous. We asked a local man who looked shocked they would send tourists that way. Extremely helpful and very friendly. We had to find a replacement rental vehicle, and the employee made phone calls for us. Also provided coffee and information about local hiking. Very informative place but would be great to develop this place or the other visitor centers more on US national Park style. The staff can be more engaging, especially for kids. Documentary was great.
