Regardless of history, today it is the only place you can walk inside the containment chamber of a real NPP, within touching distance of the reactor core. At least it has found use as a unique training facility. For anyone with the tiniest bit of technical interest in how things work, this is a must see. Book online, noting there may sometimes not be any availability for months so keep trying even at short notice. Men plan, gods laugh. In the course of a company excursion, we had the opportunity to take a guided of the Zwentendorf plant. What can we say? It was very impressive. The was bought by EVN AG, which is also responsible for the maintenance and the guided tours. The guides have a lot of knowledge and are always ready to answer questions. If you are in the neighbourhood and have an appointment for a guided tour, make sure you do it. It is the only way you will ever get that close to a reactor without consequences. It was such an interesting visit! How many times do you have the chance to visit a to its literal core? We were a large group, so we requested a 2 hours guided that included the history of the place and the of the place. It is totally recommended to anyone who wants to have a unique experience. Great experience. Only here you can see the core of a reactor for longer than a few minutes without the hazardous conditions that persists there when in use. Great (only in German). Very interesting story. It's very hard to get free slots for the tour, though. Could be a nice experience, but it isn't easy to get in. Tours are only on Fridays and they are booked out for long, the webpage doesn't even say when it will be possible to book a visit. Amazing bit of Austrian history. But still can't wrap my mind around the fact that this object was fully built only to be declined by the people's choice on referendum.🤯 If you want to have an English guide you need to have more people who want to visit in order to happen.
