Awe-inspiring sites await you at the top. This is a spectacular that provides everything Ireland has to offer in terms of mystical views. The lough is gorgeous, but you can also see as far out as the ocean, and plenty of Ireland’s “patch work quilt” geography. This is NOT an easy hike. I would categorize this as hard. And there are areas on the ascent which are daunting and quite dangerous. Like other Irish hikes, the trails are a bit scattered, and when scrambling up rocky, muddy heights, it can be nerve-wrecking. But the scenes at the top make it well worth it. It flattens out at the top and serves as a great location to pause for a snack and a look around. This is about a 4 hour up and around from the car park. The left side is more difficult than the right side. One was my regular hikes to do .. The is obviously very cold in winter but so fleshing after a long it gets deep quickly so I tend to stay near the edge..its only about 45mins of a from the carpark to the .. Hiking boots a bonus hiking poles also This is a tough hike. You will need decent footwear,water and food. It took us 3.5 hours(7k). There is a small car park that fill up early. It was very windy at the top, and boggy. Go clockwise around the lake. Some signage is badly needed to show the route(s). The route we took was extremely difficult, NOT suitable if you don't have a good head for heights. Having said all this, it was a fantastic experience with amazing views. One of the nicest hikes in Ireland if not the nicest Great loop, moderate to difficult but worth the views. Walk to the is lovely as well and great spot to watch Meteor shower.. always happy to visit this place! Watch out for midgies at evening times, they love that place when its not windy. Iv done this amazing in rain,heavy fog, the dark for sunrise and sunny days and every time has been like a different and absolutely breathtaking everytime. I prefer to go anticlockwise I personally find going up the scramble on the right and down the one too the left to be easier and know a number of hikers that think so too. On average it will take about 40 mins to an hour to reach the then about another hour and a half to 2 hours to reach the peak. It's the perfect place for a sandwich and a treat on a beautiful sunny day, the views are breathtaking from every angle and the photo opportunities are endless so bring a power pack and allow yourself the day in the mountain.
