We arrived as tour group was leaving. Sign said they were full but accommodated us without reservation. Great looking spot. After Skara Brae, best spot to stop by. Food is delicious and they have most on cask. This was always going to be a favourite for me. The beer is great. I had McGregor, Orkney Gold, dark island & wave breaker. (I think two are draft only.). Idyllic setting on a good day (as we had). It’s an old school house and there are nods to this. We had Cullen skink for lunch, excellent and gluten free (gf bread also). What a superb lunch. A must visit, if you like beer. Nice shop with good selection of and related gifts. Bar has a selection of available in taster sizes up to full pints. Some books and toys available to entertain the kids while you sample. Service felt abrupt due to how busy it was. Great place for lunch, worth friendly and helpful staff. tour is brilliant with such knowledgeable guides and the brewing are awesome. Visitor shop has great gifts too....and lots of their beers! Excellent brewery! We went there for lunch. The service was great, quick and pleasant. Food was excellent and we would definitely recommend going there for lunch! Large choice of beers. The atmosphere was nice, clean facilities and nice people working there. We had a blast at this micro brewery. Ewan gave us an information packed tour of the facility, followed by a taste of 3 on tap. Dark Island was my fav. We ate in their restaurant which is beautiful and the food was delicious. Homemade soup and sandwiches were excellent. Lots of wonderful desserts but we were stuffed. We bought lots of merch - their art is incredible. Highly recommend! This place is outstanding! We arrived for and were immediately made very welcome by the staff, even with 2 Golden Retrievers in tow! The food was fantastic! Fresh, local ingredients well cooked. Couldn't have asked for more! They even brought us a bowl of scraps for the dogs from the kitchen! The ales were also great! I had a tasting paddle and discovered that I really like their dark ale - I was previously light ales only!! If you're in Orkney you should definitely go here! Probably more for adults than kids but they do have a tour which I'm sure kids would enjoy! And they are very much Dog Friendly! Visited the for since we had heard good things about the cafe. Unfortunately greeted by a sour-faced, unwelcoming manageress who after some prompting grudgingly gave us a small barrel to sit at and announced they would take our order in 20mins! The explanation was that they were just about to receive a coach load from one of the cruise ships and were finding the pressure difficult to cope with. A smile and pleasant demeanour would have greatly eased things but as good customers go, we went feeling very unhappy. Who knows whether we’ll try again. Update: we did try again some three weeks later and exactly the same outcome: unwelcoming, dismissive manageress (same as before) and another coach load of cruise ship visitors (hopefully not the same as before) taking up all available seating. This is fine but if they are simply aiming at this presumably commercially profitable niche market, could they please state it on their website so those not arriving by coach can plan their time better. Will certainly not try again. Best I have been to. Amazing beer, amazing food, super friendly and helpful. Can’t recommend enough. If you’re in Orkney and appreciate good beer you can’t miss it! We visited the place to taste the local beers. The service and food were excellent, the were less to our taste. I recommend the vegi "fish and chips" dish. Little bit lacking. The took 15 mins to take our order, we had to go up to the bar to order our drinks because they refused to take both at once, then the food took a little under 40 minutes to arrive, for a cold seafood platter and nachos, both should be quick and easy to prepare. The smoked seafood platter was decent and so were the first few nachos, however they only put sauce on the top layer of the tortilla chips so very quickly you’re just left with a plate of plain Doritos… With improved service and more than just a dollop of salsa, the Orkney would be certainly be worth the visit, but as it stands, the fact that it’s cheaper to get Orkney in town than in their own restaurant speaks for itself. I had the Cullen Skink and Cappuccino both were excellent. Enjoyed the very much and the were lovely! Definitely a great stop. Wir hatten nebst Bier noch Suppe (Soup of the day - Blumenkohlsuppe), welche ebenfalls sehr lecker war. Fantastic beer, food and service! Wonderful all round! 🥳 Can't rate this place highly enough - a reason to visit Orkney on its own. (No, I've not been paid for the review)...
