We regularly travel from Newcastle to Scotland and always make The Pine Marten our halfway stop — both on the way up and back. It’s dog-friendly, so our pug Betty gets a well-earned break from the car, with water and treats provided, which is a lovely touch. This time we had the steak and Malbec pie — one with chips, the other with mash — and it was excellent. Hot, tasty, and far better than you might expect from a chain pub. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Honestly, with McDonald’s just over the road, we can’t understand why anyone would choose it when you can have proper food here for around the same price. We stop here 4 or 5 times a year and it’s consistently good. Highly recommended. We made a return visit to this restaurant because we like it there . We went for late lunch. We spent more than we intended, but it was a family occasion so it didn't really matter . The food was good, although somewhat surprising . The carrot was whole and completely unedited, almost as though it was accidentally dropped on the plate! Wow! What a wonderful pub and staff! All were so welcoming and provided us with plenty of information, place was incredibly comfortable. Locale is centered among many other shops and walkable distance to the high street, beach and castle. Breakfast was amazing and their dinner was top tier and very plentiful! Hats off to the chef! 👨🏼‍🍳 What a lovely place to visit. The staff were really and accommodating. Food: Sunday roast with perfectly cooked turkey and the best roast potatoes I've had since my mum's - lightly crispy on the outside and fluffy and smooth inside. The Yorkshire pudding was delicious and cooked just as I like them. Presentation was artistic too, but not in the way that leaves you hungry afterwards. Restaurant is dog which is a massive bonus. Wheelchair accessible with disabled bays nearest the entrance and well spaces out tables inside. Child too with a small, fenced in play area outside. Electric car charging at the far side of the car park. Highly recommend this lovely pub restaurant. I can honestly say I can not say anything bad about this place. Very clean and Tidy. Rooms comfortable and comfortable bed. I did not have dinner but I did have a breakfast and that was amazing and tasty. On arrival I was welcomed by Dan who was very polite and professional. We had a good natter at the bar well I was having a pin. Dan is very passionate about his job and takes pride in it. You don’t see this very often in the places iv stayed in the past. Hats off to you for doing a great job. I with other places would have the same cleanliness and passion. Thanks once again and I look forward to when I stay again. My mum and I decided to try the Pine Martin for dinner as we saw it was dog friendly. We were seated really quickly and our server, Hannah, was so warm, welcoming and smiley! She made us feel so relaxed :) We were seated in the dog section and I noticed that they had a wee unit set up with water, dog bowls and treats for the dogs which I thought was really sweet! We were given another bowl for water which was great! We both had the fish and chips which were delicious - only down side was I couldn't finish as I was wanting dessert. (Really big portions!) For dessert I had the apple and cherry crumble. I wasn't 100% sure about the cherries as I only like fresh ones. So glad I tried it as it was delicious. I was so looking forward to it I forgot to take a photo of it. Hannah was a brilliant server and definitely made it an amazing experience - she deserves a raise! She was so attentive to all the customers, not just us and served everyone with a huge smile on her face and it seemed like she was genuinely happy to be there and serve people. Were sorry our dog kept barking - she barks randomly and it's hard to get her to stop. We decided to finish our drinks in the picnic area outside which gave our dog a great time to run around for awhile. Thanks for a lovely dinner and I highly recommend this place to anyone. Hopefully when we're next back, our dog won't bark 🙈 Came for a Sunday roast. Great place for a family dinner. Nice atmosphere and staff. Hannah in particular was extremely helpful and attentive. Place has improved greatly since we first came a few years ago. We will be back. Recommended by a friend and loved it. Hannah was amazing and was spot on with recommendations. Chicken app and cheese app were delicious. The caramel sundae is incredible and we ended up getting two. Fun night out.
