Historical crossing the River Dee. Good views from this bridge. It can be seen from the city walls. Elegant historic carrying road and pedestrian traffic over the river Dee. The City Walls provide a great vantage point overlooking the bridge, while the rushing water of the weir adds some drama to the scene. It's amazing to think that medieval knights once rode out of Chester across this now very busy road bridge! It was built around 1387 and replaced earlier wooden structures that were washed away by floods. The weir next to it is even older, constructed in the 11th century to power corn mills along the riverbank. Despite frequent heavy motor traffic, the is safe and easy to across, thanks to the one-way system, a pedestrian walkway on one side, and V-shaped refuges on the other. Lovely river views from both sides, and there's also a salmon leap close by. The Gate, which leads you from here into the city centre, dates from 1782, built to replace the old fortified medieval gate, and is part of the city walls. There's a great view of the and the weir as you across it, and an information panel with some interesting historical facts. One of my favourite spots in Chester! Every steps on these stone paths are history! Beautiful and unique. This place gives a great view of North Gate Bridge. Popular tourist spot. A nice to across. It was resurfaced last year, with new traffic lights also being installed. Benefits from a large footpath and one way light road system. Old Dee is a charming and historic gem of Chester, which picturesquely connects the past with the present, offering unforgettable views and atmosphere 😍😍 This is historic and its really good and it’s a good view We stayed in a cottage on the wall and river. The views from the house were spectacular but even better from atop the wall itself. The history of the wall is displayed on boards in several places. Gate was ideal access to the wall, which then provided an excellent way to into the centre of Chester, with the added bonus of great scenery on route. The way wasn't as steep a as using the roadside pavements but did have a few flights of steps to climb. Iconic bridge. A 14th century stone that is still very much in use today - although single lane only. One of the main attractions of Chester - nice place to see the Dee river and watch the traffic from both directions patiently wait for each other to cross the bridge. Lovely to along the walls I loved this spot – a perfect blend of history and charm. Walking through the ancient city gate and across the 14th-century feels like stepping back in time. Peaceful views of the River Dee, stone arches, and a rich sense of the past make it unforgettable. Nice place Super natural place to relax and spare your weekend walking around 🌳✨️ Beautiful place for a nice river walk, parking not a problem and free for 1 hour, but we came before sunset might be busier in the daytime.
