Absolutely beautiful food. Went for the 9 course tasting for £55, cooking and value for money. Good choice of wines available by the glass. was relaxed and friendly too. Update: food is still incredible. Loved the crispy pork cheek, the skate, brown butter cakes! Can't fault a single dish. The food was very well presented and the were friendly. Okay so we were very much looking forward to visiting ** but sadly when we arrived they only had the BBQ and it was pretty disappointing. Our booking started at 6.30 and they were already sold out of bits which was interesting being that we were so early. The steak that I had just didn’t live up to the price tag which was sad but the scallops and the roasted pepper starters were both lovely. I’d like to try this spot out again but when the full is on. Super- went there after seeing A review of the Cardiff restaurant… lovely setting found and knowledgeable staff. Glad to see it full. Sat outside under the tent. Had a starter, main course, dessert, cheese, beer and wine! All in 50£ each ! Will go again and explore the Cardiff venue. 2024 Jan update. Went on a thurs night with 2 others to have the £45 taster.. unbelievable quality. service. Superb. Congratulations to Chefs, owner, table staff. Jan 2025… back again with my wife. Still steaming ahead. Fully recommended! food and wine. What they’ve also managed to do is combine being a pub and a restaurant. Came here for the the fist for a Sunday lunch (wont be the last). Delicious, freshly cooked, seasonal food in a cozy country pub setting. I had the Heritage tomatoes for starter, salt baked beetroot, sage and perl las gnocchi for main which was an outstanding veggie option followed by a love apple Soufflé for dessert (wow). My friend had the lamb dish which she said was perfect. Best meal i’ve had in ages, are friendly, service, you can see why they hold a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide. Worth every penny I’ll be back!. Had an amazing time! It was my first visit to the pub, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The food was great, and everything was delicious. I will definitely go back. This was our second visit having had an incredible meal back last year. Since then this place has been added to the Michelin guide so we decided to come back and try Sunday lunch. It was busy due to it being Easter, but was seated quickly. Some good options on the and a special on the board for the main which we opted for. Unfortunately the standard of food was quite disappointing this around. My mackerel starter was overly smoked and dominated the flavour profile. The bread it was served on was dry and tasteless. Another starter was pigs cheek, which we had ordered before but this was very different-a slab of pork, fairly dry served with apple and crispy crackling. The lamb main was delicious, full of flavour, but the Guinea fowl special was slightly disappointed. It was due to come with asparagus and bacon, both were missing from the dish. Having had such a good experience previously I was very disappointed on this occasion. I’m hoping this was a blip due to being an Easter service. Not sure I would return Delicious, unpretentious and seasonal food made from locally sourced produce. The specials was interesting and the extremely knowledgable and friendly. Recommend to book lunch early as they had run out of some dishes by the we ate at 3pm. First for us to be ushered upstairs. Somewhat bewildered and a little agitated at the length of we waited for the main course, (Sunday Roast) and when they were served, more disappointingly, the roast dinners were all only just luke warm, the portion of parsnips, a side dish of £5, had no familiar comforting caramelised colour, and were almost cold. The portion control on the lamb and beef was very meagre, beef, 1 slice, was sinewy and difficult to cut, however the pork dish had two decent slices and had flavour with a little stuffing and apple compote. The meat juices liquor or gravy or jus or whatever it was supposed to be, was unremarkable, almost watery. The serving were first class, apologising at one point for the length of time, and it pleasing to hear one of them enquiring how our meals were. She was sorry to receive the feedback about the temperatures of the food and asked if she could get them reheated, we declined, we'd waited long enough, she mentioned she would feed back to the kitchen and FOH manager, we sort of expected further engagement from one of the senior members but nothing further. It was also a little disappointing to have the automatic 12.50% charge added to drinks ordered and mainly drank at the bar counter downstairs and carried what was left in the glasses upstairs ourselves. £34.50 for two apple juices and a 2 and 4 year old childs portions of dinner, felt the polar opposite to bargainous. Weve always had very memorable and very enjoyable experiences here in the past, but they were not equalled today for us. Forage kitchen a mile or so away offers much better value for money, superb quality and presentation, meat quality and portioning and additional veg complimentary on request in a very bright, airy, relaxed and contemporary setting. It will be Forage for us in the future im afraid but we were very grateful you were able to host us this Easter Sunday. We were a large party of 10, lots of kids we were made to feel really welcome, the was impeccable! Really helpful and knowledgable about their food. Beer was awesome they had tribute on cask and neck-oil on draft. The food was awesome, we had the special, special it was! Pie was large good wholesome menu, comfort food. Absolutely would come again, for winter with an open fire burning and locals playing chess. Not just any Sunday roast dinner, but the roast dinner of the year. Its was a pleasure to enjoy a Roast with my wife who had Lamb cooked to perfection and I enjoyed Top rump equally as good both accompanied by Goose fat potatoes, honey roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese, roast carrot and braised cabbage. I could not resist trying the Soufflé for desert with an ice cream which was so light and melted in the mouth. We also tried the warm Brown Butter cakes to take home which melted in the mouth. Prices Lamb £27, Top Rump £24 Veg extras £6 each Desert £14 It was a pleasure. We come here always for the pub its ale and the staff, but our regularly eats here because the food is of a really really good standard. When we come for the ale trail event they create the best burgers for us. One of our favourite pubs. We love it! What a find for Father’s Day lunch. Attentive staff, extensive menu, perfectly cooked food. Well worth the long drive. Went for a birthday meal for 6 people. Delicious food (variety of lamb, fish and seafood between the group), well priced for the quality and friendly service. Food was as was the service. I did receive a dirty glass but was quickly rectified. This is very much a country pub of two Half's. The restaurant area is quite and more refined which is where we stayed for most of the evening and the other side is a classic, small and pretty loud country pub. What an amazing experience, there was a large group of us out for birthday celebrations, the were so accommodating and nothing was to much trouble 👏👏👏👏 what a you make, the food was next level, would highly recommend a visit, thank you for making our night so special. We had a meal. Lovely place. food (chicken pie to share was fantastic). We stayed in Cowbridge and came here for dinner, having seen a recommendation in the Michelin guide. It was such a lovely experience, we then returned for lunch the next day. The food is fresh, modern, but also hearty. The attention to detail in the kitchen, and the was excellent. I have had several dishes that I shall not forget any soon. We will certainly return here. High spend per person, just because we had a lot of wine, but the prices are extremely reasonable. I would argue too low for the quality of ingredients and cookery, but then I live in Switzerland, so my economic radar is slightly off-kilter..
