Wonderful and welcoming staff who were helpful and efficient. Food was very good quality & a real treat. Good selection of ales and lagers as well as spirits and wines. Beautiful location with the forest walks just down the road. Good outdoor seating area across the road / lane. Menu was very good with a nice selection all on chalkboard both inside & in the seating area. Dog friendly. Lovely cosy though slightly remote pub serving really nice local ales and excellent food. Well worth a minor detour to visit at Abergorlech. I guess it's a sign of a strained economic crisis, but this gem of a local pub is only open part of the week. Worth booking as it's not huge and only has a few tables. Good range of menu choice, based on fresh ingredients. We'll cooked, very tasty beef brisket. We hadn't chosen a starter, but we were given complimentary fresh bread and dipping oil/balsamic to keep us amused whilst waiting for our main. Even more impressed that one was a lovely gluten-free portion. Dog too. I've been in this country for 8 years and 99.9% of all restaurants are absolutely SH1....T to say the least!!! Found this pub in the country side and found it does the BEST FISH and CHIPS in Wales. Please 🙏all you fish and chip shop owners, please go to this pub to get a lesson in how to server AWESOME LOCAL produce and how to deep fry a LOVELY thin crispy crust over the mid section of the fish, with thick flakes, NOT THE CHEAP tail section that everyone serves with more batter than fish!!! Its disgusting how people open up a restaurant and doesnt make the effort to serve the BEST produce!! The brisket was awesome with an awesome gravy. Not to mention the awesome atmosphere of the traditional pub, which i was so glad to find, as most people are DESTROYING old pubs by modernising them. Tragic to say the least!!!! Please, EVERYONE should go to this pub for AWESOME FOOD and AWESOME BEER and Great atmosphere!!! Sunday lunch is a must to try at the Black Lion. And you won't be disappointed. The staff are and service is quick. There is a welcoming country feel restaurant room where dogs are allowed. Starters are available but we went for the mains. The family had Brisket with roast potatoes, parsnip and Yorkshire pudding. I had a homemade mushroom pastry. All were accompanied by dishes of vegetables - cauliflower cheese, mashed swede, red cabbage with pomegranate seeds, leek, courgette and kale and carrots. We even managed to polish off some delicious homemade puddings - chocolate brioche bread and butter pudding, hazelnut and coffee cream meringue, plum and apple flapjack crumble. And all very good for the price. Beautiful little pub with a substantial menu which included veggie & vegan options, yes plural! The owner was incredibly and hospitable throughout our visit. Would definitely recommend. Beer garden and Parking opposite, dog friendly. Pre-booking is advised as there are limited tables. One of the best Sunday lunches I’ve ever had! Gorgeous old pub, idyllic setting, staff and fantastic food. 5 star experience all round! 🤩🤩🤩 Such a cute cozy pub, food was so good and everything tasted so fresh. Everyone was so and welcoming! Would definitely come back ! Mind blowingly incredible service! Extremely welcoming, me, my partner and his mother came to visit wales to a rural Air BnB and came across this pub on chance! I don’t think I’ll ever find a more welcoming pub again. I couldn’t recommend the staff more. Dog friendly, and accommodating. Featuring a dog section of small treats and blankets for them. The interior was super clean and comfortable, also very visually appealing. 10/10 food, everyone needs to try this place no matter where you’re from.
