Lovely food , looking pub and lovely What a treat. Popped in on a Tuesday night to find the place rather busy. One hard working waiter did a sterling job. Omelette was excellent. Prices and atmosphere are all excellent. Love this place , are always lovely, food is fabulous and prices for what you get on your plate is definitely worth it ! Visited one lunchtime and was surprised at how lovely this place is inside. Easy to get a table and we had not booked. It’s in an unappealing area of Consett (just my opinion), just slightly out of the centre and we had wrongly assumed it would be a bit run down inside. It wasn’t at all, it was lovely. Staff were very and helpful, greeted with a beaming smile from the woman on the bar. We ordered our food at the table. Freshly cooked but if I’m honest the portions were small and the plates themselves were too small for the food and my fish kept falling into the table as I tried to cut it! I enjoyed my fish and chips but my husband was disappointed with his honey chilli chicken. A lot of his fries were all clumped together and the chicken breast was tiny. The plate was padded out with salad😂. He was unimpressed by the portion size for the cost of the meal. The decor is rustic and very and there are some free parking spaces outside. Would come back for a drink maybe but possibly not food as we didn’t think it was value for money compared to other local places. If you want staff, a atmosphere and choice of drinks, give it a go. If the food had been slightly better I’d have given 5 stars. Popped here for some mid week tea! It wasn't too busy as it was bonfire night, but still plenty people in. Kids picked Mac & Cheese, served in the cutest little pots. Chicken Shwarma Flat Bread for me and it was amazing, plenty salad too. I got a side portion of fries, delicious. The chocolate fudge cake was also amazing 😍 portion size was huge. The service was brilliant, friendly, polite & helpful. They made effort with the children too which was nice, as it can be stressful taking your kids out. We will be back. Great small pub that has good food and displays sports on the tv as well. Was pretty busy at the time I was there but still great service and not a long waiting time till the food was ready. Downstairs is more like the pub area and upstairs the restaurant part. Had a Deluxe Burger wich was an absolutly amazing burger, fresh bread, juicy burger and fries or chips. Good price as well for what you get, I paid £13,95 for the whole plate Fantastic Sunday Lunch, had belly pork and it was very good, cooked well with some crackling on. Plenty of veg too which is great for us, kids were happy with their mince and yorkshire’s! Very happy and will return. An amazing little jewel. Fabulous pub/restaurant. Service was fantastic - did not get the name of our server but he was amazing. Polite, and game for a laugh. Fast efficient service with enough time between courses. Food was fresh, piping hot and delicious. A good old fashioned atmosphere. Plenty of parking available. I would highly recommend a visit to this pub.. Sunday lunchtime can be busy so booking is advised... . Lovely food, and cosy atmosphere. For coeliacs there were tasty gluten free options a massive Sunday roast and puddings. I was looking for some home-cooked food locally and recently started using ChatGPT instead of Google. It suggested this absolute gem, so we travelled from Whitley Bay to give it a try. We were greeted by the friendliest staff, and that warmth carried through the whole visit. Customer service makes such a difference and this was outstanding! The décor and vibe were lovely. The menu had loads of tempting options, after much deliberation, I chose the Korean Fried Chicken Wings. Perfectly cooked, juicy and full of flavour. For mains I went for the homemade Steak & Ale Pie: packed with tender meat, wrapped in a light but sturdy crust (not just a lid!). The veg tasted fresh and were cooked just right, and the gravy was rich and delicious. With a little room left I went for the homemade steamed jam sponge with custard — the little chocolate wafer on top was a touch. Dessert was as fresh and tasty as the rest of the food. I always make room for dessert (rude not to) delicious. So opted for the homemade steamed jam sponge with custard, finished with a little chocolate wafer. Everything was clearly freshly made, and it tasted incredible. As a big foodie, I’d give this a solid 9.5/10. Please don’t change a thing — you’ve got something special here. I’ll be recommending you to everyone I know and can’t wait to come back to try more of the menu. Thanks again, Luke Ps, thanks for the recommendation for Lanchester Garden Centre, was fantastic! First time visiting for lunch whilst in the area. Great ambience and a menu that had a lot of tempting options. We chose the Philly cheese steak roll with chips. It arrived piping hot, a large roll filled with tender steak, melted cheese & onions. Importantly, the roll held together and didn't fall apart as burger rolls often do. There was a very nice, generous mixed salad, tasty coleslaw and a big portion of freshly made chunky chips. The price for the portion size & quality was very reasonable. Based on this vist, highly recommended. The only observation on the food is that they used quite a strong cheese, maybe cheddar, whereas I'd have preferred something like gruyere. But that's just personal choice, and it was still very good. Afterwards, just as we were about to drive out of the car park a member of waved to stop me (we had paid!) as he'd found my phone which I'd left on the seat. I am extremely grateful to him!
