I come here every year to enjoy the view and the summer vibes and the very cute town of St. Gilgen. Amazing place . There is a restaurant here called brunn wind at the beach area in front of it, you can swim. It is free. The water is very beautiful. Not very cold in summer. Fresh water lake. There is water tap and also a cloak room. You get coffee and beer there too. You need to walk for 15 minutes from the bus stand. Get down at st gilgen bushbahnof which is there stops before st. Gilgen schwand while going from salsberg. This is the place where there is a proper bus terminal. It is like a small town. This is the starting point for ferry to the other side of the lake Wolfgang. Two way ferry costs 20 euros. At this place, right outside the bus stand is the starting point for the cable car to the mountains which costs 34 euros and the base camp for paragliding which costs 150 euros Free and clean spot to go for a swim in St Gilgen. Water gets deep pretty quick, its fun to jump from the deck but less suitable for smaller kids. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas and get yourza drink or snack at the restaurant or snack bar. Parking is across the street, daypass is €5. Nice views at Schafberg. One of the most beautiful places in Upper Austria - in my opinion even more interesting than Hallstatt (especially during the summer season). Good local and European kitchen - prices are bit lower than in more popular cities close to the lakes (try Wiener Schnitzel). If you wanna see the whole panorama view from higher perspective, but still don't wanna hiking - try St. Gilgen's cable railway. such beautiful and calm place suitable for family spending time.
