Great food, but be aware that the portions are huge! Very popular place, reservation is recommended although walk-ins are possible if the terrace is open. Lovely traditional busy pub with wooden panelling, horse brass and tartan carpets. A large menu to choose from and all that we tried was very tasty. Excellent experience. Service was friendly and pub has a wry comfortable atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend. A tad confusing on arrival. A large inn with both indoor and outdoor seating. Vast majority of people were dining. We'd booked a table 2 weeks ago. Fully expected upon arrival to see some obvious station whereupon you could announce your arrival and be checked in, seated and orders taken. There was non. Approaching the bar no one seemed to notice or engage with us. We were eventually dealt with but we felt a little overlooked. The place was a hive of activity and unusually (in a good way) there was ample waiting staff to deal with all the customers. We only had a bottle of wine, which was reasonably priced and the beef Sunday dinner. Generous slices of beef and ample gravy. The roast potatoes were a bit salty and I thought slightly undercooked. The vegetables were well presented and cooked just right although a few more wouldn't have gone a miss. Lovely yorkshire pudding. The dessert menu was uninspiring. The stand out dish in our opinion was good old sticky toffee pudding which got taken off. The inn itself had an interesting interior and decor and was very relaxing. Great country pub approx. 16 miles outside Whitby. This is the second time we've stopped here on our way to Whitby and on both occasions the food and service were outstanding. This time I didn't want anything hot so asked for a salad, the chef prepared a blue cheese on croutons with a delicious fresh crunchy salad with beetroot, it was delicious 😋 my partner had a cheese and pickled sandwich which came with great chips. He said that they were the best chips he'd had. Definitely worth calling in. Excellent service quality and great value 👏 delicious 😋 food , booking advised on popular nights/days/times but outside seats available weather permitting. Dog friendly area to eat/drink inside . There is a restaurant area that's dog free, also a specials board each day/night . It has a camping/caravaning field attached to the pub out the back with facilities and a good car park for patrons visitors etc.. Loved it! Utterly superb! Have the pigeon and haggis bonbons. Food is just as good as a Michelin starred meal, I had locally last weekend at over £100/head with no alcohol. Authentically warm welcome, and service. Thank you! The Fox & Rabbit is an absolute gem. The staff are lovely and can't do enough for you. The food is amazing, we just wish we lived closer so that we could come more often. We had a main course, deserts & drinks and only paid the same as other pubs in the area but the food was so much better. Booking is a must because our little gem is very popular. I had the most delicious Sunday Lunch 3 days ago. Roast Pork and all the trimmings, all cooked to perfection and the nicest tasting gravy ever! Dessert was lemon and lime cheesecake. A buttery biscuit bottom and thick and luscious topping served with a medley of soft fruits...just wonderful! Top marks for the chef and also the friendly staff. Can't wait till next time!
