We booked and paid in advance through Expedia on the day of our stay and found out when we arrived at the property at 3pm that their checkin time is 5pm. We asked for an early checkin because we had been driving for hours, but we were told that the previous guests were still insitu despite the fact that their check-out time is 10.30am, which didn’t make sense. We drove to the closest town and found a great hotel. The correspondence from this honestly wasn’t very friendly and they cancelled our stay despite the fact that we had fully paid, arrived and received no refund. This meant that we got no points from Expedia. Just found the whole experience unfriendly, unhelpful and a little dishonest - cancelling our paid booking The owner was very nice. Breakfast was brought up to our room. We had a fridge, microwave, kettle+coffee/tea. The shower was a big North American walk-in type shower with waterfall and hose nozzle. The king size bed was very comfortable with a balcony that could fit 4 people. The pleasure of staying in a small hotel or guest houses really dependant on two factors. Firstly, the quality of the accommodation and secondly, the welcome by the hosts. At Le Balcon des Cimes we had both. We had decided to take a three day break in the Pyrenees, an area that we are not familiar with so that we could have some nice hikes and escape the pressures of lockdown in Eastern France where we live. The advice given by Cécilia was perfect and accurate. She served a perfect breakfast every morning and advised where we could find food for a take-away evening meal during these Covid times. The accommodation was perfect. We had a well-thought-out room which was spotlessly clean. I usually judge a bathroom by the space in the shower and the deluge of hot water was a welcome after a hard day's walking. I have written this in English, my mother-tongue, since I know that English visitors often visit this corner of France.
