Yes - a total surprise to be driving down a bend and suddenly see 'OMG - what on earth is THAT ... !?!?' It looks both ancient and newly rebuilt - apparently completed in 1331 and last repaired in 2014 - with black basalt type flatter stones and lots of strong sandy mortar - I was confused and amazed - it's totally gobstopping on first glance and totally worth a wander around in awe. Very nice place to visit, to have a picnic, to spend some time, and just to relax. Very clean and quiet. Also a good starting point for many hikes, e.g. a hike to the famous Gayerlay Hängeseilbrücke. Parking is free. Beautiful castle ruin that my wife and I stumbled across. There is no way to get to the top of it because the stairs have deteriorated completely, but it is still stunning to look at from the outside and to imagine what it used to look like on the inside. This ruin of a majestic fort is completely free to visit and very worth your time. The artist impressions on the information boards are nice to help you imagine the through grandeur of this fort in its days... Castle ruins to explore right off the main road. Stairs go most of the way up from the road and there are lots of paths around the area. Great photo ops. No cost.
