SEP 24. Used this bus to go to and from Keflavik airport. Excellent, no fuss service. It's all very easy. The drivers are professions and helpful. They drive very well and safe in horrible weather conditions. The price for transfers is excellent. Buses are clean and warm. Highly recommended! Flybus Transfer is the way to go from Keflavík International to Reykjavik—efficient, comfortable, and a fraction of the cost of a taxi. The ride was smooth, the staff were helpful, and the whole process was delightfully straightforward. Everything about the journey was spot-on: easy boarding at the airport, a scenic drive into the city, and a quick arrival at my stop. My only tiny challenge? My suitcases were big enough to qualify for their own citizenship, and I had to roll them about 150 meters from Bus Stop 3 to my hotel—but that’s no fault of Flybus. If you want to save money without sacrificing convenience or comfort, Flybus is the clear winner. We paid an extra fee for pickup at our hotel. The pickup bus was late and half full but had not enough space for luggage. So people were standing in the aisle holding their bag. Leaving this bus took ages. Somehow our pickup bus was the latest one for the bus and we were forced to take seperated seats in the very back. Due to delays in the process we arrived significantly late at the airport. When I asked the driver for refund, he was giving me names in a different language. Where to start? The driver wouldn’t let us on the bus, making us stand outside in the cold despite the woman inside telling us we could board. He was so rude as to wave his finger at us from inside the bus, refusing to open the door for 10 minutes. When he did finally open the door, he yelled at us that we weren’t allowed on, and then shut the door on us again. At this point, another passenger went inside to tell the driver’s supervisor about the situation, so then he begrudgingly let us on, complaining all the while. The bus then left more than 10 minutes late, and his driving was frightening. He was changing lanes erratically and braking very hard, it was a scary one hour ride. As if that wasn’t enough, when we changed buses in Reykjavik the next driver was also rude, expecting us to somehow know which bus stop number we needed when we are literally tourists just arrived here. Not a good start in Iceland! Take the public transport if you can! Save some money and being abused for daring to ask for the you paid over 10,000 for. We booked Flybus transfers through Icelandair as part of their travel package. The package contained a "number" and indicated that was what we needed to show the employee at the Flybus counter. We walked up to the counter with papers in hand and encountered a VERY rude employee who proceeded to tell us that "this isn't what you need". We responded with "that's all we were given". Eventually after shuffling the papers and lots of grumbling, she said "your bus is outside". With no other help whatsoever. When booking this service, you are told to go to a specific bus stop in the city for drop off and pick up. After transferring from our first bus at the transfer station, we were directed to a smaller bus on the other side of the building which would take us and others to designated stops. (No help with luggage on these small buses!!!) What you don't know is how far your stop actually is from your hotel, and what the walk will be like. Our walk ended up being 20 minutes and ALL UPHILL pulling a suitcase and carrying a backpack. Although it was downhill on our return trip to the airport, it certainly wasn't smooth going. You receive an email approximately 3 days before departure asking you to confirm your return trip. We traveled with 2 additional couples and we each received totally different emails with different instructions. And at the transfer station, we encountered another rude employee who insisted we needed additional information before boarding the bus. We were ignored and this young woman left us to help others. Total time from when we left our to actually boarding our plane was 4 hours and 45 minutes. Bottom line: pay more for a private shuttle that drops you off at your and picks you up there also. Everything was perfect, both on the way there and back. The was punctual, according to the scheduled times, and the matched the instructions on the website. My toddler needed a car seat, which they provided On the way there, if you booked the transfer service, you receive a card with the color of the next bus, which can be found across the bus station building. All the staff's instructions were always accurate. If you ever wanted to experience the opening scene of Braveheart but colder, wetter, and with less chance of survival then congratulations, Flybus has you covered. From the moment we stepped outside, we were greeted not by organization or efficiency, but by a sea of soaked, bewildered travelers running around in freezing rain like extras in a low-budget disaster film. Picture four empty buses sitting idle while one lone bus gets mobbed by desperate passengers stepping over each other for a seat. People were even darting into the road, trying to get into the locked buses, while staff looked on like spectators at a comedy show no one wanted to be in. At one point, a man literally shouted into the chaos: “Where is the order? Where is the management?” Spoiler: there wasn’t any. The single staff member we managed to find looked as confused as the rest of us. I’ve traveled through third-world bus depots, rural border crossings, and places where goats get priority seating and somehow, this was worse. The kicker? Flybus is a monopoly. They know you’ve got no choice, so they run it like the Bus Mafia of Iceland, and the just lets it happen. Shocking. If there were any other option, I’d say take it. But since there isn’t, I’ll just leave you with this: bring armor, a helmet, and low expectations. Firth of all the price is ridiculous for a 45 minute bus ride, for any European or North American city. There is no fixed schedule when leaving the airport, the bus just leaves when it’s full, which could take an hour if you’re unlucky. It also means you don’t know when the last bus leaves. They advertise USB charging but this never actually works. If you’re traveling with a group (4+) I HIGHLY recommend booking a taxi. If you’re not traveling early in the morning or late at night I recommend the public bus which is cheaper and punctual, although not very frequent (check Google Maps for departure times).
