There are many places where you can view The River Don. You can also walk beside it for quite a few miles. You are quite likely to see ducks, herons and sometimes you see swans. The river deserves respect it is fast flowing and after rain it can be very full. My friend and I walked along from Dyce and it was a beautiful walk. Love this walk daily if I can Followed the Don in my daily travels so the local river for me which is overshadowed by its famous sister the Dee. Don't fish or do water sports so not sure about activities. Lazy day watching the river meander through the fields. Great place to unwind. Love the river don was brought up beside it and have stayed next to it for the last 36years. Enjoyed a picnic on the riverbank, or simply admiring the idyllic scenery, a visit to the Don River in Aberdeen promises a delightful summer experience. Nice to enjoy with kids, it not that much in depth. Safe enough for a swim. Better to enjoy in the summer. Slow flowing, shallow in a lot of places and a tad boring but some great scenery and fun for a slow and safe paddle. Keig to Dyce. Some mild rapids at the end of the Lords Throat section and just before Inverurie after wooded burn. Then very little until just before the new Aberdeen bypass near Cothal. The men are very friendly,helpful,do a good job.the girks i have had pleasure of talking to are nice too and i got a coffee time i was waiting.all those little things make you feel very welcome and special. Not generally a fan of west to east flowing rivers but this is one of the finest. Best viewed west of Inverurie (before it gets full of shopping trolleys and used needles) Not sure what good a review of a river does, but regardless, I often like to take walks by the stretch of the Don that runs through Dyce. I find it very relaxing, especially after a hard day at work. If you're ever looking for a relaxing walk with gorgeous views and wildlife, then next time give the Don a go.
