Had to visit Smithy's local that appears in "Gavin & Stacey". We didn't go in so can't really comment on the service, atmosphere or food. Shame, but we were pushed for time as we also planned to visit Gwen's home,Mick & Pam's home, Bryns house & Nessas slots on the seafront. Fun couple of hours. Myself and my partner come down to Barry island to have a mini break and see the attractions, including the Stacy and Gavin parts and we decided to do the pub part last before we set off back to the midlands, I was hoping that the pub was going to be good, however it was just OK at best, I have nothing bad to be said about the or the food as that was ok. However I just felt let down by the state of the pub and its upkeep. I felt the pub felt sorry for itself, it wouldn’t do it harm to fill in the holes in the walls, the men’s toilets was quite shocking, the walls where battered and needed repainting and just good spruce up wouldn’t do it any harm. Majority of places we went around Barry did reference the gavin and Stacy tribute, wouldn’t do it hard to do the same , especially as this is the pub that quiz was held in. I think also it would most probably more custom in. Again nothing wrong with food or they were lovely just the building that needs sorting. We opted for the pre-ordered Christmas menu. The starters and desserts were lovely, but we were disappointed to be told the day before the Christmas pie was sold out and we had to reselect. We opted for the Christmas Dinner. It was nice enough, but I think we would have enjoyed the pies more. Having said that, the set menu was excellent value for money, the pub was decorated beautifully for Christmas, and the staff, as usual, were attentive and friendly. We like visiting the Colcot Arms and will definitely be back again. Absolutely outstanding meal, cooked to perfection stayed hot while ate(slow eater), everything was cooked amazing, accommodated changes to meals no fuss and so reasonably priced friendly and helpful staff.. we had 2 8oz sirloin steaks with extra onion rings 2 pepper sauce garlic bread and cheese on chips £32🤑 amazing, flavoursome and like I said cooked perfectly compliments to the chef... definitely a place to return to.... no need to book we just walked in, loads tables reserved if have disabilities or in wheelchair maybe worth booking for low table. Shame with this place because the food was actually quite good considering it was busy. We had a big table and they forgot my order.. went up to the kitchen to let them know and the lady said she deleted my order off by mistake and she’ll sort it off the bill at the end. There was no fish, no steak and only 2 chicken skewers!!!!? So basically a vegetarian pub? At the end of the meal I asked her about it and the manager turned around and walked off.. she’s the rudest person I’ve ever spoken to, told me I was only waiting 2 minutes when the whole table finished their food before mine got brought out.. calling a customer a lier etc is way out of order and having a manager that speaks to customers like that.. god help their learning thinking that’s the way to speak to the people keeping the doors open! Not impressed.. Lovely experience everytime I come here, food is always delicious and eye catching. This pub is an absolute gem! The food is incredible—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The are just as amazing, going above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Great atmosphere, great drinks, and an all-around fantastic experience. Highly recommend! Disgusted to say the least travelling all the way from Swansea to visit this lovely establishment to be told that the kitchen was closed 30 MINUTES early due to high demand I’m sorry but with no warning and no notification via website or social media totally out of order as mentioned we travelled 40 odd miles to be turned away disappointed and not even offered a refund on our drinks either , note to and kitchen if the demand is too high hire more or at least someone to inform all customers via social media that your RESTAURANT is closed before we are seated at a table!!
