On the outside this looks like a pretty standard local pub, and the main bar and eating areas reinforce this. But towards the back there’s a nice restaurant and the food is superb. There’s a good range of beers on tap, including local beers. Just order and pay at the counter and the food appears shortly after. Lovely hosts and excellent service to go with the food. We ate here twice on our trip to Wales, as it was 3 minutes from our accommodation and was dog-friendly, so I'm doing an average rating of the 2 meals (dinners).I wish I could give a 4.5, but that's not allowed. On both occasions, staff was outstanding. The bartender and the woman who took our order knew the menu well, and for someone who dislikes most pub food like me, that's crucial! 1st night- hubby was disappointed with the Shepherd's pie due to the "stringy"cheese and small amount of meat for the price. I had the breaded chicken burger, which was twice the size of the bun, which was almost burnt, so not great. The baked brie starter wasn't bad, though. 2nd night- hubby had roast lamb, which he said was delicious, and I had the Chicken Supreme with port sauce (without the blue cheese). One of the BEST chicken dishes I've ever had! Really unique sauce and not dry at all, with fresh green beans. Hubby's carrots were very good, too The side garlic bread was fantastic, as was the side of broccoli- I know that sounds weird, but it was large and plentiful and cooked perfectly with a bit of butter (we declined the chili sauce). This chef knows how to cook veggies to perfection! We will definitely return when back in the area now that we know what to order.Atmosphere and staff super friendly, very clean and most of all- dog friendly!! Best pub ever! We’ve been coming here for about 9 years and it’s always 10/10. The atmosphere is lovely, kid-friendly, with a beautiful log fire and a really warm welcome every time. The food is consistently amazing, always spot on. Would a million percent recommend this place. Truly one of our favourites. Not often I want to leave a bad review on a place but both me and my partner left the Cwellyn Arms hugely dissatisfied. We ordered the baked brie for starter and at £10 the amount we were served was embarrassingly small (tiny sauce pot) with 5 slices of cheap bread, not worth the money. For main we had beef and pork, the beef was very dry and the pork smothered in gravy to hide the lack of flavour. Altogether the food was £60 and with a round of drinks the final cost came to approx £75. A rip off. Can't fault the service but not worth the money in the slightest. Today we visited the village of Beddgelert and both of us concluded our money would have been better off spent in a pub there. Maybe we just got unlucky when we visited but we won't be rushing back. Try somewhere else first. Stayed in Farmhouse 2 for few nights. Met the owner on the first day who was very pleasant and helpful with information on Snowdon. The stay at Farmhouse 2 was fantastic, with great views and a very tranquil location. Ate at the Cwellyn Arms pub most nights due to the outstanding homemade food and welcoming staff. Food itself was amazingly presented, generously portioned and the sticky toffee pudding was the best we've ever had. Would 100% stay at the Cwellyn Arms again.
