Beautiful light house tour. Staff lovely and helpful, especially Alison really helpful and informative. Amazing historical in Portland Bill. Tour is climbing the stairs, which is a good work out. Great and historical tour of the lighthouse. Seeing the glass was impressive. Also have lobster pot next door, which excellent food. Pletty of parking, but now charging £3 a hour. Attached to the providing information and souvenirs. Clearly visible from the car park and from passing vessels. Come here quite often. Lovely place. Exceptional views. Not quite like the tv series lol but it was great to finaly visit such a lovely island with lots to exxplore . Even had a drive round the prison wall Great tour of and really interesting history. Special feature was being able to climb to the top- ( 153 steps) great and the tour guide ensures health and safety! What is the best about this place? The most exciting experiences are: - 📸To take photos of the sea shore and the itself from outside. - 🐟To have a seafood meal in the local restaurant (Salmon is the best!). ☕️🫖And a cup of hot tea with the sea view. - 🦅To admire the seagulls stealing food from the tables 😆. - 🧗‍♂️To climb over the cliffs and rocks (Gentle reminder! Be extra careful! Just keep in mind that to climb up a cliff is easier obviously than to rappelling down). - 🎁To hang around the gift shop on the ground floor - To observe the huge old lantern💡on the ground floor at the beginning of the excursion - 📢To listen to the warning siren sound on the middle floor - 🪜To go upstairs 256 (?) steps to the top - 👌To listen to the history of the lighthouse. With the sirens sounds, the comparing lanterns sizes and prices (an old and a modern one), the observing the top floor, the explanation how great engineering job was done to create the lighthouse. ⚠️ TopTip - book your guided excursion beforehand (a couple of hours worked for us, maybe a couple of days).
