Great craic dressing up in medieval gear. The British lad telling the story was a little too proud of their wins — skipped over a few Irish victories, and insisted they were “invited” by Dermot, so technically didn’t invade Ireland… lucky for him there were no locals in the audience to challenge that one. Cheerfully explained the two heads on the city stamp were a warning to the Finians not to make a peep — possibly the main reason my son (born in Ireland, learning Irish since Naíonra 10 years ago) suddenly said he felt sick and had to leave. Or maybe it was the 28°C heat combined with wearing armour minutes earlier. There’s also a small maze, a very cute garden dotted with poetry, and a spot of fun archery — 12 shots each, plus a bonus balloon round to finish. We went here to visit Santa. It was truly such an enjoyable experience. It was a winter wonderland and both my children (age 10years and 18months) had a ball. The staff were fabulous and the Santa was lovely. Look forward to visiting here again. Loved this place. Stumbled into the Heritage Centre to escape the rain, so it wasn't a planned visit. Really pleased we did. The guide was so knowledgeable and charismatic. Then we got to have a go in costume, (which really isn't my thing), but did it, and it was a laugh. Recommend this to anyone bimbling around Athenry. Beautiful little heritage museum with really friendly and helpful staff. Everything is brilliantly explained and displayed. Hopefully you'll even get to meet their resident cat too. Excellent attraction. Tour guides informed, entertaining and engaging. Really informative. We did the archery snd dress up. We spent over an hour, we could have spent longer but under time pressure. Highly recommend. Of our 3 days in Galway, definitely a highlight. Tourguide is a creative genius as well as a history expert, she made most of the costumes Best ever history time travel experience in original location with ancient and replicate items, costumes , weapons, torture equipment, introduction to culture and historical important events. Thanks to the 2 very knowledgeable ladies and their patience to answer all questions!!! We had a wonderful time at the Heritage Center in Athenry!! The staff is very friendly and patient, it’s a great place for families with kids. Beautiful costumes and interesting history. We enjoyed the Archery very much. It’s worth every euro and more. My partner and I had so much fun! This was the highlight of our four-day trip to Ireland. We did the tour with Drew wearing costumes and then went outside with Jeff to practice archery. Can't wait to go back next time we visit! 100% recommend! My family had such a wonderful experience here. The staff were super friendly and informative. The dressing up was so much fun, and the tour was very informative and patient as we needed to translate from English for our youngest to understand. We also had an archery "contest". In general, the kids and parents were thrilled. The whole experience is about 1.5 hours. Parking is by meter (only coins!) in the town square next to the heritage center. We didn't plan to go to the castle as well, but the admission was free, so we hoped in to have a look.
