But...to truly appreciate the depth of things, one must first visit and learn about the Children's Burial Ground Memorial in the southwest part of town to understand the innately macabre nature of "holy Cathaholocism"! Attended a funeral at the cathedral recently. Probably one of the nicest services I have ever attended. The church itself has a very good feeling. The priest who performed the service and who hails from Castlebar has a natural matter of fact human touch, using everyday language which commands attention and makes a difference. The singing by both a girl and a gentleman who also played an electric organ/keyboard was powerful stuff. Really gifted beautiful singing! A sad occasion made special and memorable.
