Magnificent pines ,touching the sky. The main walkways are well made ,but at times a little boring although there are side paths leading into the actual wooded areas and a lovely stream. There is also a site of an Iron Age Hill Fort, overgrown now and not too easy to find Charming cafe on site often open till about 4pm in the summer months. Good, free parking. Dogs allowed ,although they do need to be reasonably controlled. Very well worth a visit. Took about an hour and a half to complete the loop round Idless Woods. Two thirds of the way along one length of the path you can turn off to your right, and see the remnants of an Iron Age fort. There are other more recent industrial structures too down by the river. Free car park with dog waste bins. Also a cafe that we didn't visit. Hills, water stream, multiple types of trees, and history these woods have all for outdoors lovers. These woods are open to cyclists too. So, you can bring your cycles with you. The car park is free but it can get full during the holiday or on a good sunny day. There are a lot of spaces for a picnic or to sit down and enjoy nature. There are a lot of woodland photography opportunities on a moody day or in autumn. There is a cafe at the enterance for coffee and drinks. Now a couple of downsides, I think there is a no “dogs on the lead” rule in the park, I didn’t see any notice board, which is fine but we had three encounters with big dogs who were far away from the owners. One of them was very aggressive and chased our kids. And one dog run from the water stream and shaked himself in front of us and gave muddy showers to all of us. But luckily we are at the end of the and I had extra clothes in my car to change. There were not many maps for the navigation, I have to use the all trails app for the navigation. Overall, we enjoyed our walk. A few information boards on multiple spots would help! Beautiful solo walk, got lost, took in the sounds of nature, the amazing smells from the pine trees and flowers. Highly recommend for a peaceful in the woods. Beautiful woodland with lots of good trails and hidden spots. Overall great day out. Great for dogs and short family walks but also ample opportunity for a decent hike. Car park is spacious and the local farm shop/ tea room is a great way to end the day. Full of bagged and unbagged dog poo. Dog owners in this woods are awful. Couldn't let my toddler because of it. Beautiful area for walks. A bit of a shame not all dog walkers pick up their dog mess so do be vigilant if you're walking here, especially with children. The little hunters cabin was a welcome sight on a warm day after a long walk. Friendly staff and very accommodating. Look forward to coming back again soon. Great circular split into 2 main sections: a lower path which runs alongside a stream, good tree cover here, and the 2nd half is a wide stone path up high, not much tree cover here, relatively flat but just one steeper hill to reach flat ground again. Would recommend for an easy walk. It was very quiet, didn’t see many others at all, but we did go on a weekday around midday. Free carpark which is great, but no bins so you have to take dog poo away with you. No amenities. Took us around 2 hours walking at a leisurely pace.
