According to an old guide book about half of the dates back to 1261. The tower, south chancel and the pillars which divide the nave from the south aisle are all 15th century. Restoration in the 1700's removed a lot of the original and fifteenth century material including ancient pews. Despite that it is still a fine but most people will visit to see the stunning waterside location and the charming gardens often described as the most beautiful in England. An absolute pleasure to walk around. Even if you’re not particularly religious it’s worth going! Although saying that you need to be okay on your feet I would say as it’s a bit of a walk down and back up. There’s a car park at the top then a lovely walk through the very well maintained gardens with all sorts of trees and flowers. I’m afraid I’m not particularly green-fingered. The itself is nestled on the edge of the waterside, very picturesque in its setting. During our walk-around a couple and their family were going through the motions of planning their wedding there…. Amazing location, they’re very lucky! Unless there is another way in I’m not aware of I wouldn’t recommend it for wheelchair users. What a stunning garden and church. We really enjoyed walking around the gardens and peninsula with our dog Luca. The gardens are really beautiful and so well kept. There is a visitor centre just over the road from the car park and what looks like a lovely cafe. We did a walk along the footpaths and then through the village. Plenty of car parking as well. Undoubtedly the best located I have ever visited; simply an incredible site! Did not have time to stop on our walk from Trethem to St.Mawes so will have to return - there is an interpretative centre near the Cafe at the top entrance to the Church. A beautiful with a stunning yard which you may have seen on Monty Don's British Gardens programme, all set in a spectacular location. St Just in Roseland Church, on the other hand, sits quietly among lush gardens and palm trees by the River Fal. Dating back to the 13th century, it’s often described as one of the most beautifully located churches in England 🌸 Beautiful in a very scenic setting. The churchyard is lovely with some unusual flowers and plants. Lovely tea shop opposite entrance with plenty of seating outside and dog friendly. A hidden gem and worth a visit if you are touring this part of Cornwall. An interesting and historic tucked away amidst a tropical woodland garden, what a treat.
