Superb castle overlooking the Dropt Valley, in the heart of Lot-et-Garonne, which has spanned the history of France. An atypical monument, it blends the Middle Ages, the 17th century, and the Revolution. Since its purchase by the Duras town hall in 1969, the château has undergone restoration work which might spoil your visit ... One can explore the history and architecture of this listed Historic Monument through the 30 restored rooms. The Duke and Duchess's apartments were finally refurnished thanks to a partnership with the Mobilier National, allow you to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the 17th century. Missed opportunity to create something really good. Signposting and leaflets are very poor. Audio is pathetic. Expensive at 16 euros each Very quiet in mid September. Excellent self guided tour. Good restaurants in the square outside for lunch.... Don't be late, last orders 1330 Fun family friendly (though somewhat pricey) castle self guided tour. Plan on a couple of hours if you have the time to stop and play some of the games and listen to the recorded information. I would highly recommend visiting on a Thursday evening in the summer when it is open late and the festival is happening in town. Always great to visit Duras and the Chateaux is a wonderful focus of the area. Price can be a bit steep, but a must do for any tourist. Local residents do get access for free. Some great events held - the Fete du Vin is a long term favourite of mine. Recommended highly. Great views from the courtyard and from inside the place. A really interesting history and a lot of the information was in English which was good . The price to view the castle was fair. Duras is a nice little town which is well w9rth a visit. Fantastic location to watch the sunset! And the village has an amazing night market during summer which is well worth a visit. Very friendly staff and well worth a visit. Wouldn’t bother with the audio guide if you’re English as there are explanations throughout, but depending on how much you want to understand. Fantastic views!
