I loved my visit here and, given that my other half (& dog!) competes in the annual Granite City dog agility show, this will undoubtedly be the first of many visits. The +s are that it's not too expensive to ride on the train, and if you don't travel it's free to wander around, look at the vast amount of rolling stock and have a refreshment in the great wee cafe. On the negative side, I'm not a rail nut, but I did feel I wanted to know so much more about the history of the station, the line, the rolling stock, the wagons, their usage, history etc etc. There was pretty much zero info on any of this. The shop was useless in this regard also since it seemed to sell nothing but Thomas The Tank - as I said to the lady serving, well outside my age range. I'm sure those who run this heritage line will know all the info I'm after (and way more besides ), so please, please document some of it. A really fantastic time spent here, lovely stations at both ends with plenty of rolling stock and engines to look around at. The journey takes the perfect amount of time leisurely rolling up and down the line each direction taking just over an hour. A really must do in the area. We attended a 'Fish and Chips' event with the steam engine and it was good fun. I paid for the upgrade to our own table and we got our own carriage which was great with my Dog. Will definately go again. Absolutely incredible experience. The Polar Express is hands down one of the very best seasonal, festive experiences we've ever had. From the golden ticket and the fabulous platform decoration to the wonderful, friendly and highly entertaining cast and delicious hot chocolate it was simply magical and fantastic value for money. Highly, highly recommended. Foid for something different. Really good idea lovely fish and chips scenery left a bit to be desired I visited with my son for the diesel gala. The event was well managed with an amazing amount of helpful volunteers. We bought the rover ticket and for both of us it was £45 which was amazing value. The cafe facilities are great also and offer a decent range of snacks and sandwiches. A small shop is available also but unfortunately was closed by the time we returned on the last train. Will we go again, definitely. I thoroughly recommend to all train and history lovers ... We took my son here for the Dino experience. My son is obsessed with dinosaurs and the rangers were so good with him! He Managed to see all the dinosaurs and the little bouncy castle and rides were great. My only note would be that There wasn't much on the on the other side of the train journey. Maybe some small business stalls or face painting would of been good, but even without it it was a brilliant day. What an amazing experience. My family have watched this film since they were young. Got tickets for the family and grandson and they all had a blast. Would recommend anyone with kids, or adult kids to go, the actors put on a great show and seem to really enjoy themselves, they also get you involved with the show. Will be going back again next year. Thank you for a memorable experience.
