The pub/restaurant is situated on the main road between Cockermouth and Egremont.It has a huge restaurant . Tonight's food was of excellent quality. Steak & Ale pie,Cumberland sausage& Mash and chicken Burger were all very tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful. We were very happy to find this place after being turned away at Brewers Fayre Cockermouth which was fully booked for Fathers Day. Lovely cosy place to enjoy a meal. The lady staff that served us was friendly and attentive, and the food was cooked to perfection and served on the larger size, so it was really good value. The place is wheelchair friendly, although the car park has gravel, so it can be hard to push through without the risk of tipping over. There is a accessible entrance through a heavy main door. The tables just about fit a standard size wheelchair. There is a accessible WC inside. Generally, this place gets very busy, so booking advised, although early walk-ins wasn't a problem when we attended. What a find, we were going from St. Bees to Windermere when we passed the Countryman Inn, looked so inviting we turned around and went in for our late lunch. What a beautiful, well designed establishment. The staff were very helpful and attentive, but yet, we were left to eat the delicious food, which was of such ample proportions we couldn't manage a dessert. Beautiful clean ladies room with decoration. Next time we are in Cumbria, we will definitely make our way to the Countryman Inn and enjoy something different from the menu. Thank you, it completed our day. Feel like I had to drop a star off service as there was no check back on food or offer of another drink that was empty. But other than that tiny detail a visit. Lovely burgers, proper chips, plenty of gluten free options for my wife which is always good. Very nice restaurant, food was fantastic and staff were great. Highly recommend the breaded brie! Four of us (and a dog!) came here to celebrate my husband's birthday and it was a super place to eat. Nice atmosphere, not overly expensive and really good food. Well recommended for anyone wanting a evening out. We recently visited one evening . And I most say we will most certainly be returning. The staff were very friendly. The place was lovely and spacious. Because there is nothing worse when having a meal and feeling like the next table is nearly sitting in your knee . Which wasn't the case here. The food was lovely with various options available and reasonably prices. The food here was brilliant, value and big portions. I came here for my birthday, it's the first time I've came and it won't be the last. Great tasting, quality. Gluten free options are available too.
