Great range of plants, flowers and wild mushrooms & fruits on the as well as bird life. Paths are clear and easy to negotiate for the most part but caution and some planning is required. Good footwear is essential. After about a week of constant heavy rain, I revisited Scale Force in Sept. 2025. On my previous visit (see below) the water levels were low, but on this occasion the rivers and streams were in spate following all the rain. And, therefore, the water fall was flowing in full force. Because of the high rate of flow one could not reach the bigger at the backup, like I had done previously. However, it was an impressive sight seeing it in full force. [the following is my 1st review] A spectacular waterfall, dependent on weather / season prior to visit. After your initial view from the bridge, up to the first base point, then if you are up to it climb up the rocks (make sure you are able / capable and confident in scrambling) to the base of the waterfall, where there is a higher pool. You can go for a dip / wild swim in the pool too if you feel up to it. Well worth going early in the morning before the masses arrive (we did it on the way down from a wild camp the night before on Mellbreak). Beautiful, secluded, unspoiled spot, in the heart of the Western Lakes - Lovely up to it from Buttermere, not over strenuous on either of the two routes, just can get boggy in some places Beautiful a nice from Buttermere. If you're lucky you'll get it to yourself, as we did. Wonderful hike to scale Force. It's a stunning tucked away on the side of Red Pike near Buttermere. The hike is a little technical at times due to erosion of the trail but nothing to complete. If you get to the erly you will probably have it to yourself. Absolutely stunning location. Wow, what a beautiful place to visit, wear waterproof shoes though as it’s a tad boggy. A must visit location Beautiful definitely must do Perfect in the scorching heat. The is rewarded with a scenic and cool waterfall. Fantastic place for a day trip. Highly recommend to climb hire to actual waterfall. It is challenging climb, so not for everyone but definitely worth it! Such a rewarding hike once you reach the waterfall, you can climb up the first part and get to the main at the back. Just be mindful of the rocks as they can be very slippery After a long, scenic we enjoyed this treasure. The sound of the waterfall, clean, clear water. Ideal spot for mindfulness sessions. Loved it.
