We camped here in August 25, weather, small site for motorhomes and tents, hookup available, toilet blocks cleaned daily, in the gents there's a 1 shower, 1 urinal, 2 toilets, 3 sinks, at night the site is not lit which is great for star gazing, the are very and the food is very good reasonable prices, guest ales, there's plenty of seating outside you can sit and eat while looking at the where boats pull up to the jetty and disembark at the pub, you have views of Beeston Castle and the hills and countryside, you can walk to the castle grounds in about 20min or drive up to the carpark in 4min, we are looking at staying again in October 25 oh there's a play area where children can play with your supervision, day 1 strolled down the for about 2 miles and saw just 3 people, day strolled down the other direction of the and saw just 6 people, overall we enjoyed our visit, please remember you are on country roads sometimes single track roads so you might encounter horses, tractors, or other people and machines take care and respect the area. 😊 Really lovely, cosy and country pub. The beer garden has the running alongside and you can watch the barges going by. The ducks often come to see you while you enjoy your drink. They also make pizzas in the pizza oven outside, well worth an order. A great feel to the place and staff. Clean and inviting. Would definitely recommend I’ve just had the Sunday roast at The Shady, and I’m still recovering emotionally. This wasn’t a meal, it was a religious experience served with roast potatoes. The chef—THE chef—is clearly not bound by the laws of ordinary cuisine. I didn’t catch his name, but I can only assume it’s something like Chef Gandalf Ramsay-Pierre Blumenthal Jr. because this man is conjuring magic. I’ve eaten in Michelin-starred restaurants. I’ve dined in hidden trattorias in Italy. I’ve wept over brisket in Texas. Nothing—nothing—prepared me for this. The beef? Cooked like it signed a peace treaty with the knife. The gravy? I would drink it from a mug in front of the fire while reflecting on all my life choices. Roasties? So crisp they should be illegal. Yorkshire pudding? Bigger than my ego and three times as comforting. There’s not much more to say except this: it is, without question, the best food I have ever tasted… and I’ve tasted a lot of food. Chef, if you’re reading this, know that you’ve ruined all future Sunday roasts for me. And I love you. Go to The Shady. Order the roast. Cancel the rest of your plans. The were too. Travelled to the Shady Oak as it was recommended. It didn't disappoint. A very nice quaint location by the canal, with a very nice garden including a play area for children. Excellent & tentative staff, it was a busy day but they all seemed calm and handled their work professionally. We had 5 meals all extremely nice and delivered to our table in a timely and manner. Will definitely visit again. Stayed on the camp site in a camper van. Toilets are In a converted container which out side does not look engaging. Open the doors and the facilities are heated, with an excellent shower, good flooring and very well, maintained and CLEAN. The pub has a good vibe with lots of locals, very pleasant and helpful. Reading the menu on line looked like any old pub food,however it far outstretched my expectations. Fabulous Asian sticky beef salad, and my husband's hand raised chicken and leek pie was so good, I would aspire to making one like that at home. The camp site well situated, water and electrical hookups available, and on site chemical toilet disposal. Vans and tents well spaced and absolutely no late noise. Dog friendly. This was a trial night in a new can, to make sure all systems go, and we wanted somewhere close to home. What a great trial pitch. Look forward to going back. Second time I've been it's got a pizza hut now with amazing pizzas place to go dog and the my mate got a couple of fishing rods there and the were all very nice the pizza fella was a real nice fella and did amazing pizzas On boat trip and Shady was recommended to us by two different local people for Sunday lunch, which my companions enjoyed. I'm vegan and was delighted with the options available. My meal was delicious! 😋😋😋 Great service. We were very glad we went. Visited today. First time since a holiday here in 2019. Gavin behind the bar made us feel very welcome. atmosphere, very dog friendly. local vibe. Lime and soda was extortionate but the other drinks were reasonable and there was a good choice. I visited here for the first time tonight and I was so glad I did 🙌🏻 !! The are very welcoming, the range of menu options is refreshingly different and the food was wonderfully flavoured and presented. I chose the Thai sea bass and King Prawn curry and the portion size was perfect. The side of brocolli was also plentiful and cooked to perfection and only a modest £3.50 too. Will definitely come back on a sunny evening next time to enjoy sitting out alongside the canal.
