Just had a really Saturday lunch here and if I could have given 6 stars I would have done. Only wish we'd found it earlier. The garlic mushroom, prawn cocktail and sticky pork belly bite starters were generous and super tasty, and our main courses of Featherblade Beef, Mixed Grill, and Steak and Ale pie were cooked to perfection. Great staff, and a atmosphere. Barney, our Shih Tzu enjoyed it too. Very dog friendly. Great place, and if you want a cracking just off the main A691 Durham to Lanchester road in Witton Gilbert don't miss it. Nice big car park at the back of the pub too. Very local pub serving pub favorites. I had the fish and chips but I think they should rename it whale and chips as it was massive! Really tasty good quality. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meals too and the was quick. were too. Would recommend and would like to return. A family out thank you 😃 We had a Sunday roast dinner here, enjoying roast pork belly with crackling (also on the menu - gammon, chicken, beef…), which came with Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, mash, roast potatoes, veg, abundant gravy and sauces. The food was very well cooked and presented, and the was attentive and timely. Not many ales available, but the one I had was tasty. Would definitely recommend to others and would return. I’ve been here numerous times for the Sunday roast. I’d avoid the chicken as it’s dry but the feather blade beef is unreal. What had brought me to leave a 5* review is the Monday night £11 for 3 course Italian. You couldn’t buy the ingredients for that!! It’s price in today’s economy. I’d say it’s a menu you have to know to get an for £11. The bruchette and potato skins starters are amazing. For the main I’d stick to pasta and avoid the pizza and bolognaise. The desert is a coffee or ice cream. The pastas are and the chef special Cajun chicken pasta is amazing. When we went last week there was no heating on no fire on either it was freezing to be fair don't think we tasted our food we ate it so quick it was supposed to be a relaxing treat out turned out to be anything but. We were not expecting this quality of food ! Fantastic from walking through the doors. The Basic looking menu did disappoint at first and we were both expecting standard pub grub at best for the price... But how wrong were we ? Someone else got the pie and featherblade beef, both said their meals were lovely. Good portion sizes, not too much and not too little. A bit pricey for food though, but everywhere is like that now. The was good, pleasant staff. We didn't wait too long for food either. Overall pleased and would go again. Absolutely amazing. Been numerous times. Just been for bottomless brunch and wow drinks quick, fabulous. David, Josh and siobhan absolutely stunning. Being a village pub bottomless is compared to town. We will be back. Family of four had Christmas day lunch, were greated in a warm and way, the table setting was simple but festive, after being settled at our table drinks were ordered and served promptly, our pre chosen starters arrived quickly, they were presented and tasted delicious, followed by our traditional turkey mains with ample beautifully cooked dishes of assorted vegetables, once we finished and the table cleared we were given a short break before the desserts followed which again were delicious, the were attentive but not over powering. We would like to thank everyone who worked extremely hard for a relaxed and pleasant visit and would recommend this great little gem to everyone, hopefully we will be back next year, but will be visiting on lots of occasions to sample more of their fabulous menus and special deals. After a long day of travel and finally arriving at our Booking.com accommodation (without heat!), my daughter and I walked in the drizzle to the local pub. Even seated next to the fire :) Perfect! It happened to be the grill night special (on a Thursday). How lucky for us! 2 drinks, 2 appetizers and 2 steaks £38!
