Daryl ordered me in some beautiful Bristol Shubunkins, and they were at a very good price compared to others. He really has good knowledge of fish. They are stunning. I've always received great service from him and this is now the only place I go to buy for my pond or my tank. I've always found this shop to be well stocked and friendly service. They will also leave you to browse. It now has a new owner, after the passing of Adam. Lovely guy. I've yet to get to know the new owner The guy in this shop is incredibly rude, for no reason at all. We were simpling guessing what species of some of the were and instead of saying "oh that's actually a X" he was like "that's not what that is". If you work in a shop and there's customers looking at fish, perhaps try gently correct them rather than meet them with rudeness when you wasn't even being spoken to. We wont be buying from here nor will we be returning. Suggest you improve your attitude when working customer facing roles. I've been going here for just over 15 years, although it's gone through two management changes in recent times, it's still my "go to" for fish, advice and food. It does seem to be a bit of a hidden gem in Southend, it's less than a 5min walk from the high street and it's sad that the next generation might miss out on keeping because they don't know how close a great stepping stone into this world is. Very owner that clearly doesn't like to sell or engage with humans. Quite clearly a hobby and not a business for the guy that owns it. On the other hand Tony ( owners staff) is extremely helpful and approachable always pleasant to talk to. The last several times the guy has been abrupt and quite frankly...rude. avoid and put your moneys elsewhere I.e swallow aquatics. So far so good. Very helpful. I've read alot of reviews saying owners are but I've spoken to two chaps in there who were both v chatty and v helpful. Laid back as opposed to or arrogant. Took me round ans showed me which were compatible, gave me time as I asked lots of questions as a beginner. Will be going bk in for sure. Owner needs to pack up and clear off. Maybe leave the business to someone with some personality and passion about them...maybe Tony? Diamond guy super friendly and never rude. If I were you I'd work on my frown lines and learn to be a bit more public friendly Can't speak for others experience but I've been going to fishey business for many years and I've only ever been met with kindness and help with my needs. I both buy from daryl and also sometimes bring stuff in to him too. He's always happy to help where he can.
