We stayed at this campsite last night as my boyfriend has camped here before and said it was handy, affordable and with good facilities. £10 per person to include parking, so that's quite reasonable. The views are also breathtaking! Unfortunately the standard has clearly slipped. One issue was the toilet and shower block. While the water was hot, which was good, the showers were grubby, with dirt dragged in from people's boots and rubbish strewn around like used cotton tips, empty water bottles, hair bobbins, toilet roll etc. The sinks were covered in hair with water pooling everywhere, making it very messy to use. Not one thing had changed by the next morning, so it's obvious there is little or no cleaning regime there. Would it be too much to expect someone to mop the floor every hour or so, empty the bins and maybe wipe down the sinks? But the icing on the cake were the worms/maggots in my boyfriends bap at breakfast this morning. Whatever about the restaurant being grubby with layers of dust on the windowsills and dirt on the floors, and the counter bring really clueless about allergens, to order food and see it crawling with worms is shocking and the last straw! We could not believe our eyes and it was appalling for my boyfriend who had already taken a few bites! It says it all for the level of cleanliness and hygiene at this establishment. We did get our money back and were offered another meal but there's no way we would ever eat anything out of that place again. We will never be back and recommend anyone planning to camp here should think again about a visit to the bistro!! Great location , secure carparking for when your heading up the Mournes for a hike or overnight camp , toilets & showers to change if your wet afterwards , the cafe is great - nothing better than something hot before or after youve come off the hills ... had a tasty fry twice ! and a hot chocolate , friendly helpful Will have to stay over to rate the rooms so only gets 4 stars. Had a quick coffee and surrounded by lovely views. Service was great as were able to chat with you. It was a rainy and misty day but still lovely in general. Will have to stay over sometime to really experience Meelmore Lodge. Went here for food - it was nice but there was a near 45 minute long wait for 4 chips, we were also approached 2 or 3 times and asked if we ordered something we did not, or what our order was again. There was also a near 20 minute wait for a coffee. Overall even though the food and views were nice, organisation could be improved. I went here for a overnight camping with my friends. The first thing I notice is that the camping space was big enough thought the majority of it is sloped with exception in the bottom where I think its more flat. There are toilets and showers available for campers. They also have a café. Some of my friends booked a cabin and the place is nice as well, they have their own Toilet and bath. This place has access for hiking to the mournes as well. We went for a hike to hare's gap and it was so much fun and the scenery at top is breathe taking. Would definitely comeback when there's a chance. What a beautiful location, the Mountains right on your door step with easy access. We spent 6 nights at Meelmore Lodge. First off a big shout out to June and her staff! Lovely people, very accommodating friendly and helpful. The place was spotless, affordable for the pocket, especially in our current situation with Covid-19, it had everything you needed and nothing you didn’t, even the bunk beds where comfortable!! The rooms and shared spaces were warm and plenty of hot water for that all important shower. We all had a brilliant time and all ready one of our party has returned with their partner for a two night stay this week!! Now if ever a review was true this is that review. Well worth a stay. Easy campsite. Have stayed in rooms before which are great this time camping. Wee cafe for a fry in the morning. Shower and toilet facilities. Quiet after 11pm. Views to die for. Accommodation is good, comfy beds, decent showers, cozy living room and de ent size kitchen with plenty bottles equipment and fridges. After a long and beautiful hike through the mountains, my family, a few friends and I were lured in by the quaint charm of what appeared to be a nice café. Appearances, as we quickly learned, can be tragically deceiving. We ordered a selection of drinks and some scones — nothing wild — and after what felt like an archaeological age, a single lonely scone arrived. The rest of our order followed, eventually, as if each item was being personally foraged from the wilderness behind the café. Now, let’s talk about the food. The scones — flavourless, stale, and so dry they could’ve doubled as exfoliators. But hey, we’re not fussy. We brushed it off (literally, the crumbs) and tried to enjoy the moment. Then came the grand finale — and oh, what a show. As we were getting up from the picnic table (which we assumed was stable, silly us), it suddenly collapsed. I watched, in what can only be described as cinematic slow motion, as the table lurched forward — straight towards my parents. Plates, mugs, stale scones, and jam launched like they were auditioning for a baking-themed disaster movie. One mug actually smashed and cut into them. A scone hit with the force of a disappointing snack. The table itself nearly crushed them, and it was only thanks to sheer luck (and some fast reflexes) that they stopped it just in time. There they were — sprawled on the ground, bruised and dripping in tea and jam — and do you think a single member came to check on them? Offer a towel? A bit of concern? Even just an awkward “oops”? Nope. Not a soul. They didn’t even glance outside. Apparently, shattered mugs and bleeding customers aren’t enough to raise an eyebrow. We later discovered that the table hadn’t been properly secured and was sitting on uneven ground — an accident waiting to happen. Honestly, I shudder to think what could’ve happened if it had been an elderly couple or someone less able to stop the fall. So if you fancy a thrilling brush with disaster and the taste of disappointment, book your table now. Just make sure to wear a helmet and maybe bring your own snacks — ideally something with flavour.
