Lift No. 4 of the Old Canal du Centre is a remarkable piece of industrial heritage in Belgium. Built in the late 19th century, this hydraulic boat is part of a UNESCO-listed series of lifts designed to navigate a 66-meter elevation difference. This is one of the historic ships' lifts that is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. All the lifts were built between 1888 and 1917 and are the only existing of this type in the world. Nice little boat tour beautiful place for whole family rest, parking is available near the harbour, can walk to Strépy-Thieu boat lift, can go up and see from upside, paths are very good for skating, bikes, scooters, silent place for long walkings, the is extraordinary Impressive lift. Great canal walks. Beautiful area Amazing engineering construction. Worth to stop and visit. I would like to be on a boat and being lifted sometime. A must stop for engineers. Close to the highway. Walk up for spectacular view on the new lift. Amazing place of engineering heritage. Both the hundreds year old infrastructure and the impressive modern day construction. Pleasant walk along the channel. Take your family there for a stroll! Arrived on my boat went through the ecluse/lock and whilst we were waiting an engineer came on his bike to confirm details of our intentions and then invited us to see his machine room. What an experience the lifts work on water power such a wonderful 100 year old invention. The machinery was kept in immaculate condition. Well worth the visit. Didn't know where to get more information, I think it was closed on the day we went. But, very cool and interesting to see.
