The Grand Place is the public of the historic centre of Tournai. As it’s common with European public squares, there’s an array of cafes and arranged around the square. There’s also a nice mix of historically important civic buildings in the such as Hotel de ville and The Royal Theatre of Mons. Architecturally, the mirrors the development of the with a mix of Gothic and Flemish. Not amazing, but worth visiting when in the city. Went here twice. The first time, the grand place was filled with decorations and so many people were enjoying the installations. The second time around which was when there was lockdown and were closed. The area was clean and not much happenings but you could still see tourists. Typical Belgian square, lot of shops around and relatively quiet. Great and very vivid place in the center of the with a lot of nice places for a coffee, a lunch or simply a glass of wine. The statues of Plensa are unfortunately temporary but still without these great art works the main is highly recommended, during XMAS a XMAS fair and when I was there during the Easter period, a nice Easter setting was done. The area is super nice. Many bars and around plus the ice cream hageen daz where you can seat on a sunny day and enjoy the cute place. The live music was fabulous in the lively quare about 10 min walk It's always nice to see it, but especially during Christmas with the market. Do not forget to place your left hand on the head of the small monkey to give you luck. You can find it in the front wall of the hall. Nice location, be aware that the food is very pricy, there is a mcdonalds but its overcrowded. Visiting Grand-Place in Mons was one of the highlights of my trip. The is full of charm, surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, and has such a warm, local vibe. I spent a few hours here just soaking in the atmosphere — it’s lively but not overwhelming, and the pedestrian-only layout makes it feel really relaxed and welcoming. What really stood out to me were the cafés and around the square. I enjoyed a delicious lunch at one of the terrace spots with a perfect view of the Town Hall — the food was great, and the service was friendly. Whether you’re in the mood for Belgian classics or something more modern, there’s something for everyone. Don’t forget to rub the little brass monkey on the Town Hall for good luck! It’s a fun local tradition and easy to miss. If you’re in Mons, definitely make time to stop here — it captures the heart of the beautifully. I love Mons' main square. It's not as fancy as Brussels' but clearly the most beautiful and best preserved in the area. It's full of bars and restaurants. Don't expect a lot of folks to speak English though. Interesting walking around the to choose a spot to enjoy a meal and people watch ! If you are lucky you can see some beautiful decorations from the municipality during the different periods of time. Especially this summer they decorated it very well. I'd like to say well done to the Commune for this excellent job. You can also follow Ville de Mons instagram account to learn more about the events they organize at Grand-Place. OK,cheap to park behind the square.Nice place to spend a few hours window shopping and some decent lunch at a decent price. It was a beautiful place. Having a beautiful view from height. Quiet in a Monday, looking forward to the first Sunday events, which include a market, cultural events (some free), and a lively atmosphere. Fun city!
