We spent a week at Landal Barsoul holiday park with our family. To our surprise, we were upgraded and assigned a brand new luxury lodge. It looked completely new inside and was very tastefully decorated. Our unit had two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Every bedroom had its own TV and there was a large flat screen in the living room. The park itself was fairly quiet. Don't expect many facilities here, because there aren't any. There is no children's entertainment, swimming pool or shop. This makes the park ideal for people looking for peace and quiet. A few comments: although our accommodation was new and beautiful, there were a few things that stood out. Such as the lack of cupboard space or a bedside table with drawers. There is little space to store your belongings. On the large terrace, there was a very small bench that could not seat four people. Some expansion of the 'garden furniture' would therefore be desirable. The units are also very warm and could certainly use air conditioning in the summer. The long access road to the park is unpaved and full of potholes and holes. Something really needs to be done about this. It is very unpleasant when you arrive or leave. Stayed here for a week, Monday - Monday. Accomodation is gorgeous, stayed in a 4person dog friendly accomodation. Lovely enclosed balcony ay the back and then an open one to the front. Site is basic as it's still under construction, walks are very limited due to this and recent storms which have made the paths they had inaccessible. Reception was lovely, but coffee machine was not working properly (milk part) and our lodge did not come with a coffee pod machine. There is a cinema room you can reserve, but this was closed as there was a leak so unable to be used. Staff were lovely and accommodating. Road up to the location was FULL of large pot holes and needs to be sorted as we had a considerable amount of rain when there and it got worse throughout the week. Overall great site, accommodation and base for exploring the south of Scotland. Lovely 3 night stay at Landal Barnsoul but there were a few things they really need to improve on and it would have been perfect. Firstly it is in its early development stage so not that much to do but I can definitely see the future potential. It’s in a great location, the cabins are really well equipped and designed. We stayed in the 6 person lodge as a family of 4 and it was more than big enough. For me the main thing that let it down was the cleanliness, the windows were absolutely filthy inside and out, the rug needed to rolled up and thrown away and just cobwebs everywhere on the decking area. I understand they won’t have a window cleaner after every stay but those windows hadn’t been cleaned for a very long time. It’s just a shame it was looking a little tired already, considering how new the cabins are. We also felt like the cabin needed something more outside on the decking area, a Chiminea would have been ideal but that’s an extra £50! Overall we did have a lovely time, stunning views and perfect stargazing on a clear night 🌌💫 Great cabin, very clean and everything you need for a relaxing weekend away. It was very peaceful and deep into the countryside, had some fantastic walks in all directions. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely go back. Stayed here from Friday to Monday, absolutely fantastic, all the staff where super friendly, helpful & very cheerful. I took my dog with me and they were so lovely to him also, the cabin was very nice, clean, lovely view. Loved the little welcome pack for dogs, was nice how dog friendly they were. Definitely be back and 100% would recommend We booked a one-week stay at Landal Barnsoul, Dumfries (July 2025) to celebrate our honeymoon, having chosen Landal for what we believed would be a premium, luxury experience. Unfortunately, the reality fell far short of what was promised. When we arrived, the lodge was clearly not cleaned to an acceptable standard: the bathroom grouting was dirty, the decking was covered in cobwebs and debris, and the kitchen knives were rusty. The overall presentation felt unfinished and not what you’d expect for the price or for a special occasion. The hot tub, which was a key feature, was noticeably cooler than advertised — signage stated 39°C but it was maintained at 38°C. Small details like this might not matter on an ordinary break, but on a honeymoon we expected everything to be as described. We reported issues to the on-site team, who did what they could, but the damage was already done — once your first impression of cleanliness and care is gone, it’s very hard to relax. We raised a formal complaint after our stay. Landal acknowledged our concerns but only offered a 15% discount on a future booking. This requires us to spend more money with them, rather than providing a fair partial refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. For a once-in-a-lifetime trip, this felt dismissive. We are very disappointed. We paid a premium price for a luxury honeymoon and did not receive what was promised. Based on our experience, I would urge anyone booking with Landal to carefully consider whether they truly deliver the standard they advertise. Was taken here by my husband after being at piperdam last year finding it abit tired, thought we would try the brand new all singing/dancing lodges. Well one word DISAPPOINTING!! The road on the way up to site is terrible and being 33 weeks pregnant not for the faint hearted, The hot tub not the easiest to get in and out,(I didn’t attempt) no hand rails or aids, needs to be put on a diffident level from decking. No privacy can see next door in theirs .Also no staff come round to check water in hot tub at all.All round the bath was black mould, toilet seat was loose, shower not easy to get in and out off, shower screen needs to open and close to allow easier access. There were cobwebs everywhere the floor in living area was ripped and all bubbled round breakfast bar. Dog hair all over sofa, could also be doing with microwave and air fryer as not alot of places deliver. Over all a complete let down for my birthday and little baby moon. For a low cost 4 night stay, this was an ideal getaway. Despite it being advertised that there was construction, there wasn't any noise relating to this. The inside of the cabins were clean and tidy, however expect there to be some environmental mess on outside which is to be expected since you're in the country. We called the on-site out of hours to help with a kitchen appliance issue but they were at the lodge within ten minutes to help and solved it quickly. A few things to note would be that the road from that leads up to the lodges is uneven, gravel and full of large pot holes which aren't maintained so not nice on the car. In the welcome email they noted that they had cleared the forestry area from a recent storm but actually, this is still really a mess and access is limited when we were there but wasn't a big deal for us.
