I have nothing but positive things to say about my with GVI. When first registering for the 12 weeks Marine Conservation in the Seychelles (starting Feb 2020), the whole process was easy and well explained and any questions I did have were answered promptly and thoroughly. Upon arriving in the Seychelles, the team at Cap Ternay were excellent. Everything was well set out and I settled in quickly and right at home. There was a lot of information to take in but the learning was very enjoyable and the were always available to answer any questions or if extra help was needed. I have stayed in contact with GVI since returning home and as always they have been incredibly helpful and have made me feel like part of the GVI family. I am already planning my next adventure and I would highly recommend GVI to anyone wanting to volunteer abroad. This was my second with GVI Chiang Mai and it never disappoints. It's lovely to see the development of the village and fully immerse yourself into the Karen culture/community. By staying at a homestay you get to try and practice the pakkinya you learn in the afternoons at which they really appreciate. There are crafts such as bamboo basket and weaving as well as learning a skill with the mahoots. No matter what you sign up for you have the opportunity to do other things such as gibbon hikes or teaching English in the school or nursery. If you want to go on hikes to see elephants ethically, get to live a different way of and meet others who share the same views, then you may love Gvi Chiang Mai as much as me. For someone who is similar to me, looking for an opportunity to not only expand your skills while seeing the world but also doing some good while you do GVI is for you! Although I am yet to travel to my for the Master Diver and Marine conservation apprenticeship, I have already learnt so much from the online learning that I have been sent and cannot wait to get out there and put this to use helping protect marine life! Honestly, one of the best internships I had so far!!! I volunteered in Kekoldi, Costa Rica, for two months, where I had the opportunity to meet the field team. They are so passionate about what they are doing, it really makes a difference. The most incredible of my life. I feel so lucky to have experienced all that is Nosy Be, Madagascar. I chose GVI because they are so impact driven, and during my in Madagascar that was the evident. Being able to immerse myself into such vibrant and joyful was a remarkable opportunity. From to weekend fun, everything about this trip was wonderful. The students, the staff, the locals, the volunteers, the nature, the wildlife, the music…everything about it. Meeting the students and going into schools was so much fun and I am so glad to have met such exceptional people. If you are reading this review unsure whether or not to do a with GVI, this is your sign to book it…right now. You will not regret it. Every single day on the GVI Nepal Women's Empowerment was exciting, fulfilling and memorable. Pokhara is an incredible place which I might never otherwise have thought to visit - but it's an ideal backpacking destination which I can't wait to return to! The GVI homestay was modest but comfortable, and soon like home. The were so lovely and helpful, especially those with whom I worked on the Women's Empowerment project, and quickly more like friends than colleagues. Moreover, I was incredibly lucky to volunteer at the same as some genuinely wonderful people, who soon like friends I'd known for years. That doesn't always happen when travelling with you don't know, and I so blessed to it. The itself was well-established in the local community, and it was a huge privilege to meet and get to know the women coming to classes. I massively enjoyed creating and delivering the lessons, and only wish that I could have stayed longer to have made resources for more of the curriculum. In the future, I would love to see GVI expand their teaching locations to reach women in more rural locations, who may have little means of transportation but for whom learning English is a potentially life-changing skill. I believe this would massively increase GVI's positive impact in the Pokhara valley, and I would love to return to GVI Nepal to help with this expansion. For the being, however, it is clear that the Women's Empowerment is making a genuine difference in the community, and it was a true blessing to be a part of it, even for a short time. There are a million things I could rave about - the food, the people, the landscape and lake, the weekend treks and smoothies and milk tea, the beauty of the mountains, the food (again). But all of it boils down to this simple message - GO! You will not regret it. Pokhara is an incredible place, and the work GVI is doing in the local is vital and life-changing. You will things which you might never otherwise experience, and you will learn things about yourself and others which will alter your perspective on the world for the better. Do yourself a favour, and get out there! The work was really clearly set out from the beginning. With great support and an encouraging and welcoming environment, I was able to complete my successfully at my own pace and help others as a result. My supervisor played an especially pivotal part in my as she definitely made the a smooth experience. The perfect opportunity for those in gap years! GVI South Africa was an incredible experience, to not only see wildlife but also learn so much about wildlife conservation and the ecology from dedicated scientists living on base. The level of dedication to non-invasive research, and working with the local for real and sustainable protection of the natural environment is clearly done with an integrity and commitment that any non-profit organisation should aspire to match. It was genuinely an inspiring and once in a lifetime experience, for a first solo traveller as well, us volunteers were well looked after throughout (picked up directly from the airport etc) and safe. When I signed up to GVI Costa Rica I was excited to see and work with the exotic animals in the rainforest. What I was not expecting was the that I would be working with, from making close friendships with the other participants, to lifetime bonds with the members themselves. This made the that much more rewarding and made it a joy to go out on surveys every morning and night to look at wonderful snakes and frogs, with equally people. Travelling with GVI was a changing experience. I so many new things through my volunteering, which I would never have done if I had just gone backpacking. I made so many friendships with my fellow volunteers and the staff. they made me feel so safe and welcome. Everyday was a new fun and you truly did meaningful work. working at a primary school in Thailand so rewarding and you could see the effect it was having. and having the opportunity to help turtles in an animal hospital at the local university was amazing. but the best part of the was the local culture and how friendly everyone was. by having local guides it made it all so much more authentic and special. I will never forget my trip. 100% recommend for travelling solo for the first (that's what I was) I absolutely loved my in Chiang Mai with GVI. I spent a month volunteering, which involved elephant hikes, activities, interacting with the local community, learning the local language and so much more. I cannot recommend GVI enough and Chiang Mai is a perfect place for solo or group travels. I will definitely be back in the future! GVI Limpopo has been one of the most experiences of my life. Arriving on you are met with well trained who perfectly reflect the core values of GVI, as well as many passionate, friendly and helpful volunteers. of is incredibly fun and the you get to be able to meet and form friendships with the other participants and is incredibly valuable. On the two drives you go on each day you are driven by an incredibly knowledgable member who knows a literal unbelievable amount about the wildlife on the reserve and are always up for chatting with us and going on fascinating tangents about all sorts of wildlife. It is clear that GVI and the working on care an incredible amount about the participants, our on and our before and after GVI. GVI has been a of formative experiences and has helped guide my thinking in the weeks after landing back in the UK. I had an incredible volunteering with the GVI teaching in Siem Reap! The are all so so friendly and helpful and there’s such a strong sense of family. The food at the Secret Harden Hotel is all delicious especially the Amok :). The teaching timetable works really well and is timed so you are back for the hottest part of the day! The teachers are all lovely and very helpful and the students are all so willing to learn and have conversations and play games with you. Overall I had so much fun and learnt so much from the incredible in Siem Reap 😊 I have done Gvi Costa Rica Wildlife conservation (2 weeks) Gvi Chiang Mai Wildlife Conservation (1 week) and Gvi Siem Riep Development (2 weeks). Each one has been amazing. Great meeting new people, seeing the world and being fully supported the entire way. could not recommend enough! I stayed in the Canary Islands doing conservation of dolphins and whales and I have 3 things to say. Wonderful environment. Wonderful people. Wonderful experience! I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend in my summer and I will be back as soon as possible but for longer. Seeing the marine up close magical and understanding and learning about the intricacies of their species was so interesting. I would 100% recommend to anyone who is interested in marine The was perfectly planned to include activities which both challenged and energised us as teenagers keen to explore Thailand and give back to the community. The were absolutely at keeping our safety and well-being protected, while always bringing fun and laughter to our days. The definitely would not have been the same without them, so shoutout to Georgia, Sofia, and Jiyad! Some of the activities we took part in, I never could have dreamed of doing; from caring for sea turtles, swimming in waterfalls, kayaking through mangrove forests, and bamboo-rafting, we definitely made memories which will last forever. As well as once-in-a-lifetime experiences, we were also educated on some of the implications of volunteering. The made sure to keep us informed with presentations covering the ethics of animals in captivity. I have total faith that GVI are an organisation which genuinely do care for both the environment and the community, and I reassured that the work we were doing did have a positive impact. GVI Limpopo, SA - 4 Week Research Fellowship: My 4 weeks at GVI Limpopo's allowed me to collect the necessary data for my university research project. The fact that GVI was able to cater to my specific project's needs was absolutely brilliant. Very nice, accommodating on base, as well as a very friendly communications team throughout my booking/application process. The Limpopo setup really was the true African safari dream. What could have been done better however, was a clearer description of my day-to-day (before arriving), ALL the duties/activities I would have on and how the WIFI setup would be (I was sprung with quite a few things upon arrival I did not know were included - these were positive things, but they could have been nice to know in advance). It was very scary travelling across the world alone but once I got to nosy be Madagascar I was warmly welcomed and immediately part of the team. The were so helpful and I knew if I needed anything I could rely on them. The tasks were easy to understand but generally rewarding. Some more structure would be beneficial and more goals however the site was young and is in constant development. It has been nearly a year since I returned and I think about my every day, it was the best thing I have ever done. GVI Ghana - JEDI GVI Ghana was amazing! Base was like home from home after the initial settling in, was friendly, professional and always ready to help. Based in Kokrobite, they told everything we needed to know safety, food, culture, how to be respectful and where we could and couldnt go. Clean and safe with running water (cold) and full kitchen for use. Plenty of storage for personal items, we where took to the mall once a week to buy anything we needed. The dianamics between and intern/volunteers where relaxed and friendly which meant there was no staff/boss nerves when it came to projects. This also meant where always open to editing and switching projects around to see if trying something different would work better. Trips on our weekends where fun and well planned by Faye who was amazing. She did everything from booking the stay and organising travel we just had to pay her our share. Everything from start to finish was excellent, they helped me with anything I needed. Including accommodated my disabilities and let me work at my own pace. I loved Ghana and would go back. I absolutely loved my volunteer in Chiang Mai and had already booked to go back before I left! I was originally meant to volunteer to teach on the Phang Nga base, but unfortunately it had to close. This meant I went into the not too sure what to expect - I was instantly pleasantly surprised. The are all lovely and work hard to make sure everyone feels at home. From the moment I started it was obvious how much each of them cared for what they were doing and it was truly inspiring. The volunteering itself was amazing. There are always millions of different opportunities for teaching, such as going into school or nursery aswell as teaching individuals in the evenings. I also really enjoyed learning about the elephants. I went in as a teaching volunteer so knew very little about asian elephants in general, but was able to join hikes, take data and watch presentations. I have now learnt so much more about conservation and what they in Thailand/Asia. My favourite thing about the as a whole was the feel, you truly begin to feel like a family - which is encouraged through the homestays. My homestay, the and everyone on were super friendly and enhanced my experience. The village itself is gorgeous and the views indescribable. There are always activities to do such as, camping, learning the language, campfires, night hikes, ect. I loved every moment of my and would recommend it to anyone considering volunteering abroad!
