Impressive new leisure centre in Exeter. Modern gym that's equipped with TechnoGym. Two swimming pools with adjustable heights and low chlorine. Good viewing spaces (though short on leg room) Home to Exeter Water Polo Good facility with nice pools etc. The disappointment is how quickly the are being left to slowly break down and degrade. Seems like a failure of maintenance but a number of showers have already stopped working. The toilets are badly damaged as well. It’s a shame to see £40m investment not being looked after! Arguably the best gym in exeter! Could do with more machines for the amount of who attend but still has times where it’s empty. The add ons are a addition however the opening and closing times are a bit restrictive. Would recommend! gym and fun classes I go to St Sidwell’s to use the gym, and I’m genuinely impressed. The machines and equipment are in condition, always clean, and well maintained. It’s rare to find anything broken, and it’s usually not too crowded except between 4–6 pm on weekdays. I usually enjoy coming to St Sidwell’s Point as it’s a modern and well-equipped gym. However, I recently had an uncomfortable experience with another member who became upset when I tried to use a machine he was using. I tried to explain politely that we could share the equipment by alternating sets, but there seemed to be a misunderstanding. When he raised his voice, I decided to step away to avoid any conflict. The gym was very crowded that day, and it was hard to find available machines. I hope the management can encourage clearer communication and mutual respect among members, especially during busy hours. Other than that, the and are usually great. No soap in dispensers ,no hairdryers ,sometimes not open on time ,often too crowded for a decent swim 90 days waiting for change the hairdryer.it was terrible We had a time swimming here. Turned up on a rainy Sunday at 12.30 and were given bands for the 1.30 slot so we came back after a quick coffee in town. Reception team were lovely. Everything has been thought about. Smart wristbands for the lockers, extra large family changing rooms, it's clean and modern. The learner and shallow splash is excellent and very warm. The warmth hits you when you walk in! Recommend trying this pool! Excellent pools and design apart from the showers...they don't seem to turn off? So when you're in a cubicle the water is coming out so much you'd get your towel soaking wet if you put it on inside the cubical....which nigates the cubical....and when there are a load of kids showering you have to walk out naked, which feels a bit wrong..!? Maybe angle the water head down and or have a shower timer much shorter... As usual they are clearly underfunding the cleaning budget. 🙄 No hand soap, dust everywhere...general grime. The won't last long If they aren't maintaining them, it's a shame. On a positive note, I do love the shoe removal area. Excellent idea!! 🙂 Another thing is the locker wrist bands, wonderul improvement to the old school ones. What's happening with the potential car park behind sidwell point? They've just cut our bus service to once an hour and frankly 6 quid was a bit steep for the "service" anyway... Whoever designed the use of space in the gym is incompetent. So much inefficiency. The incompetence makes sense since they don't monitor their email inboxes for months on end when you email them multiple times to cancel your membership - as is the only way. Lovely for toddlers and little ones. We had a very enjoyable morning here, and came back the next day we loved it so much - I'd definitely recommend it. It's lovely and warm and my 2yo and 3mo infant were plenty warm enough. and changing rooms are clean and well maintained. Nice that you can stay as long as you like. My only complaints were: - that it was so full they stopped from entering the pool, but only once they had paid, were changed, and on poolside! We even had the reception ring down to check beforehand, but when we got down to the it was at capacity. - The other slight issue was that the toddler/splash closes at 6pm whereas the training closes at 6.45 (which we weren't informed of). We would've like to have known this before going in at 5.55pm! Overall a really nice and I'll definitely be back. Thanks The look nice from the outside, but it is not possible to swim without signing up for a PAYG membership. They asked for my full name, home address, email, both phone numbers, DOB, emergency contact details etc....I have never heard of anything like it & I must have used 100+ different pools in my life. They have not only made it as difficult as possible for a new swimmer to try out the but are ACTIVELY DISCOURAGING EXERCISE. An absolute joke! So relieved to have left. Genuinely hindered my gym progress coming here and made me dread the gym, which is crazy because I have a deep love for it and since leaving again I’m back to enjoying going… Here’s the issues: 1. Too many members for the amount of equipment. Had to adapt what I was doing each time due to not being able to use things and this means you’re not progressing properly because you can’t be consistent. 2. weren’t helpful. They didn’t seem to care whatsoever when I asked if there was a way to do things more easily with the lack of floor space to do abs or set up weights. They were just unhelpful and kind of rude. 3. There’s no carpark. 4. They start cleaning around you way before close which is a bit odd. 5. Not enough benches or squat racks but a ridiculous amount of cardio machines…why… 6. Mostly men can be a bit intimidating as a female. 7. Clinical feel with bright lighting. 8. More expensive than gyms like pure which are better and nicer staff. 9. Their comms are really slow it took ages to confirm I could terminate my membership. 10. I politely expressed how I’d struggled with aspects of the gym and it was very clear that they didn’t care whatsoever. You can tell how little the here an owners care about their members partly based on the fact they don’t reply to the countless negative reviews. Embarrassing. Rang up to go to the sauna today and was told it cost £35 for a sauna and you have to be there at a specific time etc. absolutely ridiculous money for a council gym!! I am a serious swimmer and travel for a living, and over more than 30 years & 25 countries I have never seen a so poorly maintained or so badly staffed (with the exception of its predecessor, Pyramids). I have been swimming in this approx. 4 days per week for the last six months and here are the things I've noticed: (1) There is algae on the floor of the and moss growing out of the tiles that are above the water line. (2) The floors in the change room & showers (and particularly the women's showers) are covered in something green/black and occasionally orange (mould? algae? who knows!). (3) The communal showers that lead through to the main stink of urine. (4) Half the lockers don't lock. (5) The lifeguards won't act to stop bad behaviour in the pool. (6) The actions of some men and teenage boys in the communal change room make this an extremely uncomfortable (bordering on unsafe) space for women and there are no women-only sessions. I have raised these issues with the on multiple occasions and nothing changes. At this rate, this facility (which cost tax payers over £40 million) will be as bad as Pyramids by the end of the year. Gym.good equipment but not enough of it. Free weight area ridiculously small considering number of users. Need another squat rack. Gym often unmanned which is against all health and safety rules. Generally hasn't been any effort to improve this facility since opening. Yoga classes very good though. Awful. Have lost count of how many emails and enquiries I’ve sent to cancel subscription that were ignored, over 2 months this has been going on. I finally had another phone call with someone called Isabella who should’ve cancelled my subscription then and there after me explaining the situation, but didn’t and just asked me to send proof of my enquiries, I then sent her some proof and am now only getting almost a months worth of SLOW email responses from saying I can’t have a refund????? A week ago she finally says they will cancel it on the 31st, end of this month, which obviously means another payment will come out of my account, shocking. I have requested for my emails to be properly reviewed but they are now completely ignoring me. The worst costumer service and gym experience I have ever had, no wonder reviews are bad. Just had a swim and a bite to eat in the cafe Honestly the nicest I've seen in a leasure centre. My daughter broke a plate and the cafe couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. It's conveniently located and good enough for my purposes, but I'm a bit fed up of seeing that half the lockers haven't worked for a year and there seems to be no plan to fix them. There are enough anyway, but it's not a good look. It's the same with the hair dryers, I don't personally need them, but seeing all these laminated signs saying some of them are out of use, isn't really acceptable. The can be a bit frustrating, because even though it's primarily a gym membership pool, it's open to the public on a pay as you go scheme. You'd think it'd be quiet, on weekday mornings, but you get a surprising amount of there for social reasons, and with their kids (not using the learner because it's booked for schools or closed for some other unknown reason.) It's not so bad that you can't do laps back and fourth but you're sometimes having to weave around people/ wait for to move, and work out this unspoken etiquette with other swimmers to make space for each other. I understand they don't want to have more strictly fixed sessions and turn who are going on a whim away, but it makes it a worse experience for everyone. The are nice, but the gym is very small and the opening and closing times are a bit inconvenient. Unless you're getting in very early morning you'll almost certainly be waiting to use the machines / weights. I'd probably just go with PureGym in the future, the may not be as nice, but it's cheaper, the hours are more convenient, and the gym and changing rooms are not nearly as cramped. Very good Leisure Sports Complex with a thermally heated swimming low chlorine levels low noise and very eco friendly heated steam rooms. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a leisure centre to enjoy in exeter!
