Cool memorial at the spot where Michael Collins was ambushed. It’s minimal but fairly powerful. You can read about the and visualize the situation as you look around at the surroundings. There’s minimal parking area where you can pull off the road. When I was there, there were only one or two other cars. This is not a major attraction, but something cool to check out if you’re passing by and/or in the area. Well worth a to the site where one of the most influential people in the of Ireland was ambushed and killed. The flagpole should have the Irish flag flying. Somber, how else could you describe the site where Ireland's fallen hero was murdered? Its a fitting memorial and I guess it helps complete the Michael Collins story. Its easy to imagine the ambush and ensuing gun fight. God rest his soul. Can't say much more, its worth the and is a must see. Around the same time last year I visited Michael Collins Birthplace. This year decided to the place he was ambushed. The memorial is nice, I would have liked a bit more information on what's happened there. Like an additional information plate would be nice. Nevertheless, I'm glad I could pay respect to Michael Collins. Tbh while this can be somewhat of an emotional place to visit, given it’s historical relevance and sensitivity and the fact that a decent man was murdered there, the setting is somewhat underwhelming. Think of it more as a gravestone on the side of the road and unfortunately there is little to explain it’s significance to the casual passer-by. That said there are other, more comprehensive memorials to Michael Collins and his legacy in nearby Clonakilty. Highly recommend seeing Michael Collins movie before going here if you are not familiar with Irish history. We stopped here while driving between Blarney and Killarney. Very nice tribute. To the left of the memorial is a small donation box in the ground to help with upkeep. Before you go here, map your next destination. The gps is spotty. We did not take the next right turn when leaving and ended up on the twenty minute loop through the farming area. For such an Iconic place it is quite unremarkable. Yes it’s interesting with a very nice monument and nice to have seen it It makes you think why they went down that particular road when there’s clearly a big sign at the Centra with an arrow pointing down the road saying, “AMBUSH SITE” What were they thinking??🤔 To this site has been on my bucket list for over 30 years. Love him or hate him, Michael Collins’ impact on the Nation of Ireland cannot be denied. To this spot was surreal. The peacefulness of the site today as opposed to the violent encounter that occurred over a century ago was surreal. As a lover of Irish this place was a must see and it did not disappoint. An historic site of the ambush when Michael Collins was murdered by snipers. An event which changed Irish history. Being honest, I wasn’t expecting too much but I was very wrong. The place is small but the gentleman who talked us through the presentation was one of the best I have ever come across. His knowledge and his analysis of the subject matter, combined with his passion , humour and enthusiasm made for a very compelling presentation. I was there yesterday with a group and am now planning to return with family and friends. Terrific. Free monument to on the local roadside where the famous Michael Collins was killed a small piece of Irish that is a must do when visiting.
