The peak is in the communal territory of Stresa, between the Lake Orta and Lake Maggiore. The source of the Agogna river is located in the mountain. Mottarone area is known for the production of cheese, the most renowned of which is the Toma del Mottarone. The peak of Mottarone can be reached by a 20-minute ride on a cableway from Carciano, a frazione of Stresa. This was built to replace a rack and pinion railroad from Stresa in 1963. It overlooks the city of Verbania on the Lake Maggiore; the Monviso in the Maritime Alps, as well as the Monte Rosa, can be seen on clear sky days. It is possible reach the peak of Mottarone by car. The ski lifts and funivia were closed during summer. L'impressione che ho avuto è che il Mottarone non si sia ancora ripreso dall'incidente della funivia del 23 maggio 2021. Il Mottarone è adesso raggiungibile da Stresa solo con la a pagamento, del costo di 10 euro. La vista dalla cima è sempre notevole, ma occorre trovare la giornata giusta e la cosa è abbastanza rara. Dopo 15-20 anni che non andavo con famiglia decidiamo di passare una giornata diversa dal solito... Già per arrivare è un cinema...2 possibilità di salita sul monte Mottarone...una dal lago d'Orta...scorrevole e normale strada... l'altra più breve ma PEDAGGIO in quanto privata...e già qui chi non lo sa prende la fregatura...va beh... Arrivo su...ore 10:20...piena domenica di sole... parcheggio in cima con 10 cm di strato di ghiaccio..anche le auto con gomme invernali slittavano...ultimi 30 MT di molto stretti e con auto parcheggiate sulla dx a complicare ulteriormente le manovre...di domenica di pieno sole poi...un vigile o almeno un addetto al parcheggio potevano metterlo... Strutture per sciare molto modeste... almeno lo skipass giornaliero costa poco...gli avrei dato max 15€...ne costa 18... Facciamo 2 passi nei dintorni...poi bob x mia figlia..(che poi ci verrà rubato)...e successivamente pranzo... Nel primo pomeriggio decidiamo di salire a piedi sulla neve verso la cima del monte...a salire nessun problema...a scendere 2 maestri di sci ci rimproverano di non passare sulla pista perché è per sciare...e grazie al cavolo...cosa faccio...volo?... stavo a bordo pista...mica in mezzo...ed inoltre pensavo fosse possibile in quanto una parte della recinzione della pista era abbassata e pensavo fosse fatto apposta per fare passare i pedoni....senza cartelli uno può solo immaginare... Messo alla ricerca del bob rubato che non ho più ritrovato...a scendere doppia fila di parcheggio sulla strada...che aveva trasformato la in un vicolo... decisamente disordinato e direi anche un po' pericoloso...strada dell' andata a scendere (quella non a pagamento)... pericolosa a mio parere in quanto prova di protezioni laterali in più punti... Giornata più da dimenticare che ricordare...per i prossimi 15-20 anni...al Mottarone...non mi vedono più... contribuirò a fare brutta pubblicità... During springtime with a sunny day, the view is just incredible with a 360deg panorama seeing from the Alps summit with snow to Milan valley. It takes some time to reach there by car and you have to end up with your feet but definitely worth it. One of the best sceneries I’ve seen in 2018 !! Really cool, and the price for the cable car (20€ roundtrip) is fair. Lots of hiking paths and amazing views on top. Definitely something you should do when in Stresa or Orta!
