I love that they reuse all different types of barrels, including American bourbon ones! It was fun to taste the differences among them. They told me Deanston is sold in my state (I'm from american), so I will definitely be looking for it! Our first stop on a down to Islay. I had not actually heard of Deanston before this visit and now their 15 year old fine oak (available in Canada) is always a addition to my stock. We had a lovely of the distillery production floor, learned that the film 'Angels Share' was partly filmed there, and that the black bricks are actually caused by whiskey fumes (not coal or smog). Although near closing time, we found the visitor’s center very busy and initially it seemed like staff were having a hard time keeping up with the crowd. Once it got a little less busy, we found the staff very engaging and we got to sample quite a number of their whiskies including distillery exclusives and hand pours. They also had some Tobermory and Bunnahabhain whiskies (same parent company). While this isn’t one of the “pretty” distilleries, we were happy to see the range of distillery exclusives available and ended up with 2 bottles! Our Thomas was fantastic and was able to answer all our questions. A very immersive that came with all the lore around the age statements and special releases, the one thing I really liked was that there was no pressure to adhere to notes on the bottles and people were free to express themselves with each sample. Many distilleries almost ruin the by telling you what the flavours are before you try them, personally I enjoy seeing what I can taste and then seeing how close I came to the distillers description. Came away with a few bottles and some samples, would absolutely come again. Touring Deanston today with our George was excellent. History, Evolution, Production, and Maturation, this was a fantastic weaving our way through the site and its life producing its wonderful whisky. Looking forward to enjoying my purchases. Slàinte Mhath. Did the warehouse 4 tour. I would recommend anyone to do this tour. We had Thomas, an amazing, inspired, passionate who tells stories and interacts with you like no other. Our guide, Thomas, was fab. Happy to answer any questions he could, able to talk about the history of the building and the different qualities of the whiskey. After the in the shop the staff were more than happy for us to taste even more varieties before buying. We had an amazing time here! Our Brian was great, very knowledgeable and allowed us to take the at our own pace. The was also great, even for someone who is not completely into whiskey. 10/10, must do while in the area. The warehouse #4 felt like a private since we visited during the slow season (December 2025). Our guide, Brian, was incredibly knowledgeable, answering all our questions while providing an in-depth look at the craft behind making Scotch whisky. We had the pleasure of some remarkable, well-aged Scotch whiskies, including a 28-year-old selection! The felt intimate and personalized. The merchant booth attendant, whose name I unfortunately can't recall (maybe Thomas), was exceptionally friendly and courteous. They even provided a box to help us carry our purchases—yes, we bought quite a bit of merchandise and bottles to bring back to the States! Overall, I would rate this a solid 10/10. Special thanks to Brian for his impressive expertise and dedication to making our visit extraordinary. Thank you, Deanston family, for your warm hospitality. We will definitely be back! Amazing whiskies at this distillery. I highly recommend treating yourself to the Warehouse No. 4 Experience. It was a very small group and our guide, George, gave an excellent and informative tour.
